About this listen

Life is hard for Sharkey and the other scrappers in Lawrence.

After the Great Oil Crisis the Earth became a hot, wild, dangerous place. Those that could reach the portals left the planet long ago. Those left behind live a desperate and brutal existence, surviving on the bones of a ruined civilization, fighting and killing each other in a world taken back by the earth.

But Sharkey has hope. Can he and his band of followers make it through the Nothing alive? And if they do, will they find the salvation they are looking for?

Nothing is Beautiful is a post apocalyptic western sci fi story of love and friendship, terror and loss, and fierce determination in the face of seemingly insurmountable adversity. You will not soon forget this compelling and original book.

action packed

After the great oil crisis, most people got off earth, but those left behind had to learn to survive any way they can. Sharkey and his gang, are doing ok for now scraping a existence out of not much, but they want more. So, if they can make it through the nothing will they find the life they have doped for.
This is a western that is a dystopian book. It has lots of suspense and is so action packed you might find yourself there especially is you get the audio narrated by a wonderful voice actor. Mr. de Golia has a way to suck you into the stories, and it is do much fun. I like this audiobook a lot and hope for more

Challenging Survival

Ray Harris-Kein combines the elements of post-apocalyptic sci-fi and the Wild West in 'Nothing is Beautiful '. Set on Earth after the Great Oil Crisis, the story follows Sharkey, his family, and friends as they navigate a world filled with dangers from other tribes, wild animals, and mysterious portals. The characters in Lawrence's small settlement are torn between the struggle for survival and the desire for more, adding depth to the narrative.

Sharkey, a young and determined character, is the heart of the story. His relentless pursuit of a better life leads to heartbreak and death among his friends and family. Despite the harsh consequences, Sharkey remains undeterred, driven by the belief that survival in this world is only possible through unity. However, Nothing is Beautiful is thought-provoking nature is occasionally overshadowed by inconsistent dialogue and plot shifts, making it challenging to follow the journey of the multiple groups.

One of the best voice actors, Jack de Golia, delivers an unblemished rendition. The voices are perfect for the characters, and the excellent pacing and intonations help make this a good listen. A few hours of listening to Jack de Golia is never bad.
Fans of dystopian sci-fi will enjoy the addition of the Western lifestyle to this story of love, hate, fear, and overcoming adversity.
