Publisher's summary

Your struggling teenager is going to a residential or wilderness treatment program. Their addictions, learning disabilities, or emotional/behavioral issues have brought you to a moment of decision. Heartsick, anxious, and exhausted, questions bounce endlessly around your mind. Will this work? Was this really necessary? Will she ever forgive me? Can we handle him at home when the time comes? Dr. Tim Thayne delivers the answers in his groundbreaking book Not by Chance. As an owner/therapist of wilderness and residential programs, Thayne was frustrated when young people made monumental progress, only to return home where things quickly unraveled. His mission became to vastly improve long-term success by crafting and proving a model to coach parents on their power to lead out through full engagement during treatment and management of the transition home.

Teens, learning to transition into adult hood

This is an other excellent example of the many teaching tools available to the average person. It seems we live in the golden age of digital learning. This book gives a thorough and comprehensive look into many of the challenges associated with teens transitioning into adult hood and transitioning out of wilderness programs back into the home. It delt with primarily 18 and older which is particularly pertinent in my case. Very thoughtful and helpful information. Highly recommend?

Fantastic

Our son has been gone from our home 6 months, first in wilderness therapy for 3 months and now TBS. We've learned so much and have now been more accountable for our past actions. This book has given me direct insight into the work that still needs to be done on a parent level. Wish I would have read this book 6 months ago! Our son is thriving and more importantly healing. My new motto is Win the Day. Thank you so much!

An amazing, heartfelt and non judgmental guide that is helping me parent from confidence not fear.

This is the book I wish we had read when my daughter had been in the inpatient psychiatric hospital. We have been home for four months and have been desperate and afraid as things have unraveled back to where they had been before her treatment. Within the first two hours of reading (listening)Tim‘s book, I could feel my confidence, reassurance and trust in my path forward return as a parent. It made me feel ready to take on the challenges of each phase and know that by applying these principles, it would help us through this challenging time to a better and more healthy life for my daughter and our family. Wonderful author! Thank you so much for this gift! I will recommend it to anyone who will listen!
