About this listen

The teacher Patrick Healy traveled around the world, talked with people in different places, and collected around 500 myths, legends, and folktales and their several alternative versions. His opinion and comments (directly or indirectly) are inevitable.

This is the 10th volume of his work, 34 Norse Myths, in his words. He retold the stories with his own opinion and approach to them.

Patrick is an Australian writer who has an abiding interest in the folklore of different cultures. He has lived and worked in Hong Kong for more than 25 years as a high school teacher. Patrick has traveled extensively throughout Asia and speaks both Cantonese and Mandarin fluently.

Norse Myths

This is an entertaining retelling of many famous Norse tales. If you enjoy tales of heroes and villains from mythology you will happily get lost in these adventures. You will recognize many names and tales in this collection. These stories are from the times when the world was young and new, and heroes were a plenty. This collection gives you many stories from the beginning of the Gods to their demise. Narrator Denise Kahn gives these stories life and keeps the listener engrossed in the stories.

Great Norse stories.

I really enjoyed listening to this, as soon as I figured out how to play it at a higher speed.
I guess it's mostly made for children so it's spoken quite slow and clearly, which is great for them but a bit annoying for me, but it was easy to set it to play a bit faster. Otherwise the narrator makes a good job with different voices for different characters and it's very easy to follow and understand.
The book itself is the good old stories I heard as a child growing up in Sweden about the different gods and their dealings with the humans, frost giants and other mythological beings.
