About this listen
Struggling to put her life back together after almost being murdered, OR nurse Annie Collins agrees to help homicide Detective Alex Frost investigate a troubling number of patient deaths in the ICU step-down unit at her hospital. The deaths are not unexpected, but Annie and Frost wonder whether someone is helping patients die.
Assistant district attorney Angel Cisneros, Annie’s close friend and neighbor, worries about her involvement with Frost’s investigation and about her well-being after all she’s been through. His worry escalates after a person from her past contacts her. His feelings for her make dealing with the repercussions of both difficult. Will Angel go from girl-of-the-month to something serious with Annie?
Dangerous enemies are one thing Annie and Angel have in common. Angel and another ADA are the targets of tire slashing, vandalism, and harassment that may or may not be related to a trial and its verdict. Is it juvenile payback for the verdict by an unhappy friend or relative of a defendant, or is it more deadly than that?
As both Annie and Angel discover, paybacks are hell.
Be sure to listen to the first book in this series, The Mad Hatter’s Son, and stay tuned for the third in the series.

As a matter of routine, or so it seems, the case passes across the desk of Detective Sergeant Smith, recently returned to work after an internal investigation into another case that has led to tensions between officers at Kings Lake police headquarters. As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

OUTSTANDING!
This is apparently the 2nd book of this series, even if the title does not explain this. This book does stand on it's own, because the author does a good job of explaining a lot of what must have happened in the 1st book, but, i think I would have enjoyed this book more had I had that background . That being said, Helen Starbuck is an engaging author. I was hooked from the get go and will definitely watch for other writings from her. Especially the Annie Collins Mysteries. Annie is a very likeable, and relate-able character with a natural need to help her family and friends. Her integrity gets her sucked into some scary situations and she has plenty of flaws that makes her a lovable human being.
I listened to the audio book w/Suzanne Fortin as the narrator. Suzanne has a good voice that is easy to listen to. She doesn't put on 'voices', but just changes the timber of her voice and uses the inflections that make you know that a new character is speaking. She uses some true emotions when Annie is scared, hurt, mad, etc The only constructive criticism I would give is that the actual narration of the story is a little more 'dry'. it is more like reading than storytelling, than I like, however, it is not so bad that it is distracting. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook and appreciate the gift of the book in exchange for the review. I hope to hear more from both this author and the narrator.

I cannot praise this book enough...........
No Pity in Death is the second in this medical mystery series about Annie Collins, a trauma nurse working in the OR at a Denver, Colorado hospital. In book one of the series, Annie became embroiled in trying to solve a mystery and ended up a target of a devious psychopath. It is not necessary to read the first book because the author skillfully uses flashbacks and the concern of Annie's friends and co-workers to layout the background for this horrific experience. Annie is finally getting back to normal when she starts investigating a series of deaths at her hospital at the request of the homicide detective she befriended in the first book. What follows is a fascinated process by which Annie tries to narrow down the events proceeding these murders and to determine whether or not something suspicious is actually happening. The author obviously has extensive medical training, and she does a great job of explaining what happens behind the scenes at a hospital in terms that I could understand while keeping me intrigued. At the same time, Annie continues to deal with the fallout of her experience with the psychopath and explores a long awaited romance with her good friend and neighbor, Angel, a District Attorney. Between the intricately woven mystery, the interesting medical information and the wonderful interactions between Annie and the people in her life, I can't say enough positive about this book. I am going to read the first book in the series next, and I am anxiously awaiting the publication of the third book.
Suzanne T Fortin's narration is fantastic. Her delivery is flawless, she differentiates well between characters, and she handles the Hispanic accent for Angel and his family beautifully. I am excited to see that she narrated the first book in the series, and I am hopeful that she will continue to narrate the series.

A great second book in this mystery series!
This is the second book in the Annie Collins mysteries, and I really enjoyed the continuation of Annie’s story. Annie had some rough situations in the last book, and she is still dealing with the aftermath as we start book 2.
This story focuses on the mystery of DNR patients being killed off at her hospital. I liked that there was still this medical mystery portion of the story, but we also go to invest in a romance plot for Annie. I liked that something that was a spark of romance from book one was delved into more in this story.
I would recommend starting at the beginning of this series, rather than starting in book 2, but I think that there is enough backstory provided that if you did pick this one up in the middle, you wouldn’t be lost. It does, however, explore some themes from book one that might not be quite as exciting for a reader without reading that first book.
I listened to the audio version of this book, and the narrator has done a fabulous job. Her voice is perfect for this story. She is easy to listen to and does a great job with the characters!
Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I loved the character development and the mystery. It was a great second book, and I’m looking forward to book 3!

WELL-WRITTEN AND VERY ENJOYABLE
My first read/listen from author Helen Starbuck. Well-written & enjoyable. Narrator Suzanne T. Fortin’s talented narration adds greatly to the book’s enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Well-written romantic/suspense, with well-developed characters. I’ll be reading more in this series. really enjoyed this book
Told in a more conversational tone this psychological medical thriller really kept my interest. The backstory was disconcerting enough to set up the broody/moody personality that can make you either be completely annoyed or concerned for Annie Collins. As the characters develop it turns to genuine concern for this very salt of the earth woman. There are some good medical scenarios and procedures. I really ended up setting the sleep timer, then setting it again and again. I got sucked in---I recommend this book. The narrator had very little distinction between characters. She's not completely flat or monotone but the lack of distinction would have been me confused and rewinding to follow story. I still recommend this book because the story and authors style is worth it.

2nd in series
I enjoyed listening to this more than reading it just as good as the 1st (The Mad Hatter’s Son). It has good character development enjoy the characters of Annie (OR nurse), Angel (Assistant DA), Maddie, Chip, Frost and hope Angel’s grandmother does well. It was a good medical thriller with unexpected killer. It is about killer of DNR patients. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you
