Publisher's summary

In a world where women can unfriend each other with the swipe of a finger, how do we find friendships that we can trust to last? Maybe by first becoming those kinds of lasting friends ourselves.

As the community manager at the website incourage.me since 2010, Lisa-Jo Baker has had the chance to engage hundreds of conversations with women about friendship. She's learned that no one can make us quite as unsure about ourselves as another woman. And nothing can wound as deeply as unkind words from a friend. While we are all hungry for friendship, it's the fear of feeling awkward and being rejected, left out, or hurt (again) that often keep us from connecting.

But what if we knew we could never be unfriended? Would we risk friendship then? Starting with that guarantee from the most faithful friend who ever lived - Jesus - this book is a step-by-step guide to friendships you can trust. It answers the questions that lurk under the surface of every friendship:

  • What are we afraid of?
  • What can't we change?
  • What can we change?
  • And where do we start?

With personal stories and practical tips to help you make the friends, and be the friend, that lasts.

Made it to My Top 5 Books of All Time!

It's almost like this book was written with me in mind. The author writes in such a personal and real way with no extra fluff just to make the book longer. It's just real talk for real women of all kinds. This is an excellent book for any woman who has ever been hurt by a "friend" (and who among us hasn't?). I recommend this book for any woman on the planet Earth.

thrown off by the title, but enjoyed the book

I was afraid this this book would be about friendships in the digital age, and I was hesitant to read it. but when I finally got into it, it really spoke to me and my struggles with friendship. I appreciate the story and think it would be great to share with a women's Christian book club.

What a great book for friendship and sisterhood!

This book is sooooo good it’s like sitting all snuggled up in front of a warm comforting fireplace and drinking a hot cup of cocoa. She talks to you like a friend. And shows you how you can be a good friend all while keeping the message of Christ as the number one focus. No matter how many friends we have, or don’t have, Christ is always your number one friend. He is the best example of how to be a great friend. You’ll love this awesome book!

One of the best books I’ve ever read

Everyone needs to hear this. It’s written for women, but most of it applies to all people.

Should be required reading for all women, but useful for all humans

I loved how honestly she explained the deep, true ways to be a friend. I was convicted in the areas I, myself, have been a selfish seeker, but in the true sense was fully encouraged to rightly be the example of a friend I need! It felt like the circumstances of my own friendship stories were playing out in real time with the topics discussed. I got to exercise the way to be what a friend needs vs what I need in real time with the author's stories. I've literally shared this linked audiobook with All of my best friends. I hope it fills up their fearful friend spaces as much as it did mine.

Changed my mind

This book has really fed my soul. I was really blessed by it and it’s helping me overcome many traumatic friendships that I’ve experienced. It’s also helped me to start fresh and learn to give, love, and trust women again.

Great intro...book downhill from there.

I was so excited for this book after I listened to the intro. There are like 3-5 good concepts that could have been summed up on one page. Lots of Christian fluff. It has that common Christian authentic inauthentic story-telling. The reader was good but the content, not so much. I’m going to return this book.
