Publisher's summary

This text concisely puts forward the case for a form of nihilism - fusing thoughts from Hume, Schopenhauer, and Nietzsche, amongst others. It forcefully argues that morality as we know it is a power structure disguised as knowledge; that law is based upon this false idol; and that thus power is, in fact, the basis of all life.

This text inspired the recreation of the Marvel philosopher superhero Karnak.

Written by the Philosopher Peter Sjöstedt-H.

Peter Sjöstedt-H is an Anglo-Scandinavian philosopher with specialization in the thought of Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Bergson, and Whitehead, and within the Philosophy of Mind. Following his studies in philosophy at Warwick University, Peter became a philosophy lecturer in London for six years. He is currently engaged in his PhD at Exeter University where he also teaches philosophy modules and writing skills. Peter is the author of the paperback Noumenautics, and an inspiration behind the new inhuman philosopher Marvel Superhero, Karnak.

A good introduction to nihilist philosophy

The position feels lacking in its defining of the proposed chief good, power. It is made clear that each method to power is different, so actions are neither good or bad innately, unless perhaps an action always leads to loss of power, but it is unclear what power is. However, albeit the absence of a definition for power, this short book covered a lot of ground and serves as a great introduction and reference point to deeper investigation on nihilist philosophy.

simply sharp

First listen through was fascinating. Definitely a repeat listen. Peter easily frames complex ideas for palatable self understanding.

Short but On Point

the text was shorter than I expected but is well written , would have preferred more examples.

Inspiring

Whatever brought me to this concise Nietzsche's philosophy exposure must have been some favourable winds since this was exactly what I needed at this point. Good combination of cool reflexion with apostolic zest. Without oversimplification, serving just what is necessary to grasp the idea.

Probably best as an introductory argument

Mostly consistent work Nietzsche and Schopenhauer, but much more compact and containing a grew deviations from their arguments.

Refreshing reminder

In a time of moral chaos this book serves as a refreshing reminder of the origin of our social values and the instability of the tacit knowledge in society. The author discusses various philosophical theories from utilitarianism to materialism not to clarify what neo-nihilism is, but rather what it isn’t.

Brilliant!

A mind-opening experience. I never realized the true significance and impact of Nihilism. Peter is quite unique and obviously highly intelligent.
