About this listen

Phantom of the Opera meets Beauty and the Beast in this gothic-inspired dark fantasy romance.

A haunted tower, a mysterious instructor, and the lure of the music of the night...

After the death of her father, Aria is left penniless and destitute. To avoid working the streets, she becomes the ward of a Count and moves to a remote town called High Tower.

High Tower is a gloomy place with one vivid attraction: The theater. Lords and ladies come from afar to be seduced by a night of unforgettable entertainment.

Many are warned to stay away from High Tower’s dangerous enchantments, but it’s a warning Aria is forced to ignore. Determined to take her life back into her hands, she and the Count make a deal. She can avoid an arranged marriage if she learns to sing for him.

When Aria stumbles across a mysterious man in a dark tower, she begs to learn the power of song from him. Although reluctant, the man agrees to teach her the music of the night. Between midnight meetings and emotional singing lessons, Aria falls in love with her alluring instructor despite his shadowy past.

But something deadly stirs, awoken by the desire of its master.

Evening reveries become haunted with terror, blood, and murder. Rumors claim the man in the tower is behind the madness that haunts High Tower, a truth Aria is loath to believe. For she just gained the desire of her heart.

What she doesn’t know is that her haunted instructor intends to use her for his own purposes...

Music of the Night is a complete, stand-alone novel inspired by Phantom of the Opera. Perfect for fans of dark and steamy fantasy romance.

Gothic Romance

This is listed as a Gothic romance, but it is much more. It's about revenge, only it's a mystery, you don't know why. One thing you learn is that the magic of music will correct a wrong. Just a heads up - the sex scenes are explicit. I was gifted this from the author.

When bad stories happen to good writers...

Um. Well, this is a difficult book to review because I absolutely love that the author is a brilliant writer (in terms of well defined/consistent usage of tone, story-telling descriptive style, etc.) - but the story....just no.

I listened to just shy of 50-minutes worth and I cannot recall much of anything that happened as it was completely disjointed, superfluous nonsense. I don't understand what this is about or why I should care. Not one character was memorable and I can't understand how that's possible. Had to return.

Gave 3-stars because I think the author just needs a good story and she'd easily be 5-stars.

A Good Read

I enjoyed the romance and music theme in Music of the Night. It was a solid retelling of Phantom of the Opera.

Had to speed up

Had to speed up narration to 1.7 in order for narration to sound normal. which in turn made me lose some of the connection I may have had to the characters and the story.

slow but beautifully written and narrated

This is book I listen to when it's time to wind down and do my night time routine. Its got that "spicy storytime for adults" kind of aesthetic. The plot isn't thrilling, but it tickles my need for romance with a dark, broody man. There's not that many sex scenes, but they do get explicit!
Can't wait to read more from the series!

Well written

Well written retelling of Phantom of the Opera. It grabs your attention and keeps it. The narration brings it to life and was very enjoyable. Frankie Porter did an excellent job. I highly recommend reading or better yet listening to it!

Not Bad

Not a bad book, I'm a huge fan of Phantom of the Opera so I had extremely high hopes for this book. It wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be but a good retelling of an old tale regardless. The narrator talked super slowly...if I hadn't upped the speed of the reading I think it would have drove me a little crazy but maybe that's her style or maybe it was supposed to be slow and somewhat sensuous. A fun short book to pass the time

Absolutely loved the story.

It was a sweet and refreshing palette cleanser. The twists and turns. Just wish the audio was better quality. Too many pauses. Duet would be nice too
