Deep in the swamps of Louisiana, Detective London Carter investigates a double murder in Magnolia Parish.
A father and son are watching television in their living room when they are suddenly and brutally gunned down. It doesn’t take London long to develop possible suspects, but all of the motives are weak, and London is left wondering if there’s someone else out there with an axe to grind.
The murder weapon is a rare one, and it might help identify the killer…if only London could find it.
Meanwhile, Detective Dawn Luke’s own hands are full when she receives a call from a mother whose daughter went missing twenty-one years earlier. Dawn vows to find answers for the still-grieving mother, but, for her efforts, her own world might come crashing down.
With only two months left to go before their wedding, London and Dawn each find themselves wondering if they’ll make it to the altar.

This book pulls you in during the first few minutes when two out of three members of a family are massacred. The following chapters introduce a woman calling the police station to inquire about the long forgotten case of her missing daughter. She hasn’t been seen in 20 years.
A recovered weapon in the police evidence room then brings you to a WWII weapon that had been stolen and used to commit suicide. Strangely enough this also occurred 20 years ago. The pawn shop it had been stolen from was never notified the valuable weapon had ever been recovered.
These three stories seem so different and you’re lead to believe that two of them are secondary to the main plot. Little bits at a time weave these together for what I can only describe as a tour de force when all the pieces fall into place.
Patrick Nolan does an outstanding job narrating.
