About this listen

When the body of a young woman is found near the ruins of a haunted abbey, everyone assumes she died of fright. A postmortem examination tells a different story. Not only was Elizabeth Barrett poisoned, but the lethal dose of cyanide must have been administered by someone close to her - someone she trusted, who may have known her secret.

As Captain Redmond and Constable Haze delve into the victim's seemingly ordinary life, they learn she wasn't the proper, biddable wife everyone believed her to be. With no clear motive for the murder and no obvious suspects, the trail soon grows cold. But the killer is closer than they imagined, waiting to strike with deadly force should they discover the truth.

This is the second installment of the exciting Redmond and Haze mysteries, perfect for fans of Arthur Conan Doyle, Anne Perry, and C.S. Harris.

Good story, so so narration.

The plot was good, although it was obvious from the beginning who the murderer was. The narrator did a good job with the exception of the American accent. Worth a credit.

A Well Told Story with Great Character!

Loved the development of Jason as an American doctor & his parental struggles with his ward Micah. And the combination of Daniel as investigator made you think of Sherlock's relationship with Watson on a more humble accent.

The story line keeps moving forward

This is going to be a great series. I like being able listen to a book that doesn’t constantly repeat the background of the main characters over and over. I also very much appreciate the fact that blow by blow sex acts and foul language are not in the book. My imagination is sufficient. I look forward to listening to the entire series

Exciting story/plot

I loved the storyline in the plot and really appreciated the author being creative with taking the story around and not leaving it to open for predictability. What I didn’t like very much was the narrator, she needs to pump it up a little bit, her reading is a bit flat.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Another good story!

I think this was a very enjoyable listen, partly because the characters are really starting to develop. The pace is steady, continually moving forward, with other story lines included that help develop the relationships and set the backdrop for the murder mystery.
