About this listen
Stripping away the revisionism to reveal the true nature of the man himself, this new book recounts the life journey of a fighter universally recognized as a unique and treasured world icon.
Few global personalities have commanded an all-encompassing sporting and cultural audience like Muhammad Ali. Now, Muhammad Ali: A Tribute to the Greatest allows us to more fully appreciate the truth - and understand both the man and the ways in which he helped recalibrate how the world perceives its transcendent figures.
In this celebratory volume, New York Times best-selling author Thomas Hauser provides a compelling retrospective of Ali's life. Relying on personal insights, interviews with close associates and other contemporaries, and memories gathered over the course of decades on the cutting edge of boxing journalism, Hauser explores Ali in colorful detail inside and outside the ring.
Muhammad Ali has attained mythical status. But in recent years, he has been subjected to an image makeover by corporate America as it seeks to homogenize the electrifying nature of his persona. Hauser argues that there has been a deliberate distortion of what Ali believed, said, and stood for and that making Ali more presentable for advertising purposes by sanitizing his legacy is a disservice to history as well as to Ali himself.

Story
Muhammed Ali and Howard Cosell, a legendary athlete and a television icon, were individually interesting, but together they were mesmerizing. They were profoundly different, young and old, black and white, a Muslim and a Jew, Ali barely literate, Cosell an editor of his university's law review. Yet they had in common forces that made them unforgettable: both were unprecedented performers who covered enormous insecurities by demanding, loudly and often, public acclaim.

Decent book but repeats same points
I picked up this book soon after learning of the champ's death hoping to learn more about him aside from all the usual accounts and pubic writings. While that was accomplished as there were many aspects of Ali's complicated life that I learned, I felt that the same key points were repeated. In an audiobook that made it harder to listen to and as a result my mind may have wandered off when crucial information was read. All in all I didn't enjoy listening to this one, but I give it a passing grade for fresh ideas and that the author did explore an area of Ali not well known, something not easy to find.

Not ready for production
The content is ok but it is repeated over and over and over. it's like they only had 2 hours of material but the publisher required 8 so they just recycled the same things to meet the requirement.....and they did so in an unorganized way. I mean, this was my first audiobook with the app and I had to check to make sure there wasn't a "shuffle" feature that I had selected . Hauser knows Ali, but his other book is much better
