About this listen

How can an average climber do the hardest route in the world? Dave MacLeod wasn’t even the best among his fellow rock climbers in Glasgow, until a sequence of key decisions and influences catalysed his progression from an unremarkable intermediate to one of the best all-round climbers in the world. Dave shows that much of his advantage came from easily trainable skills or behavioural traits that could be replicated by any climber.

Moving the Needle is a story of the ups and downs of a struggle to answer a deep curiosity and its side effect of making the first ascent of Rhapsody at Dumbarton Rock, then the hardest trad climb in the world and the first to earn the grade of E11. Through an autobiographical exploration of his apprenticeship as a climber, the book is intended to function as a guide to transform your own climbing. Foreword by Dave Cuthbertson, and edited by Deziree Wilson.

Articulation and relatability

Dave touches on so many different subjects in his latest book. I can relate to many of his struggles, and I’m able to go on his journey so easily with the way he presents his story. I found this book to be a practical approach to apply my own journey with climbing. I loved every chapter! Dave is a down-to-earth legend!

Relatable

I’m almost 30, started my real and serious trainning for climbing less than 5 year ago, climbing and trainning became my life and I have to balance it with work and life, and regardless of this, I could feel the stories and relate to them within my own climbing history… big fan of Dave and now more than before, he’s just as human as me… thanks for the inspiration.

Insightful reading

The author brings great insights and perspectives not only into ones relationship with climbing, but also with one’s self, and the world around us. He also is a great narrator. I would love to hear more of Dave’s books on Audible.

Excellent!

Great insight into an inspirational life in climbing! Love to hear Dave in his own words telling a story that reflects on and teaches things every athlete can learn from. Here's to hoping for audio versions of his other books!

So much more than a biography

Dave is one of the most thoughtful top climbers and proves it in this book. I love that he narrated the audiobook himself.

Inspiring!

I’ve read this book already but I just had to hear it from the man himself. A truly inspiring account of his life and accomplishments, breaking down seemingly impossible tasks into manageable pieces that make these tasks inevitably achievable with the right conviction. I have and will continue to apply this wisdom to my own training. Thanks Dave!

Loved the book and how it mixed different topics.

This is not just a book about climbing, Macleod talks about with general societal issues such as mental health and western diet. I especially loved how the epilogue pulled it all together and made me want to read his next book!
