About this listen

The girl voted least likely to save the world may have to do just that.

A sickly mom. A crappy travel trailer. High-school bullies and snarky drama queens. Bad guys with charming smiles. Allie has problems. And then there's that whole thing about fulfilling a magical prophecy and saving the world from evil. Welcome to the funny, sad, sometimes-scary world of 15-year-old Allie Emerson, who's struggling to keep her act together (not to mention her mom's) in the small-town world of Peacock Flats, Washington.

A zap from an electrical fence sets off Allie's weird psychic powers. The next thing she knows she's being visited by a hippy-dippy guardian angel, and then her mysterious neighbor, the town "witch", gives her an incredible moonstone pendant that has powers only a "Star Seeker" is meant to command. "Who, me?" is Allie's first reaction. But as sinister events begin to unfold, Allie realizes she's got a destiny far bigger than she ever imagined - If she can just survive everyday life, in the meantime.

Critic reviews

"Marilee Brothers' novel stands out for its humor and Allie's strong point-of-view as an underdog finding her place in the world." (Grinnell College Libraries)

Had a hard time with the reader

The story was fine with some quirky humor. It was told in first person point of view from the perspective of a 14 year old girl from Washington state. The reader seems to be a middle aged woman from the south, maybe the Carolinas? Honestly it bothered me through most of the story. Also there was this random music that played a few bars every once in awhile. What on Earth was it for? At first I thought it was a weird stupid clue, but then it was just annoying
