Publisher's summary

From beloved CBS Sunday Morning correspondent and humorist Mo Rocca, an entertaining and rigorously researched audiobook that celebrates the dead people who have long fascinated him.

Mo Rocca has always loved obituaries - reading about the remarkable lives of global leaders, Hollywood heavyweights, and innovators who changed the world. But not every notable life has gotten the send-off it deserves. His quest to right that wrong inspired Mobituaries, his number one hit podcast. Now with Mobituaries, the audiobook, he has gone much further, with all new essays on artists, entertainers, sports stars, political pioneers, founding fathers, and more. Even if you know the names, you’ve never understood why they matter...until now.

Take Herbert Hoover: Before he was president, he was the "Great Humanitarian", the man who saved tens of millions from starvation. But after less than a year in the White House, the stock market crashed, and all the good he had done seemed to be forgotten. Then, there’s Marlene Dietrich, well remembered as a screen goddess, less remembered as a great patriot. Alongside American servicemen on the front lines during World War II, she risked her life to help defeat the Nazis of her native Germany. And what about Billy Carter and history’s unruly presidential brothers? Were they ne'er-do-well liabilities...or secret weapons? Plus, Mobits for dead sports teams, dead countries, the dearly departed station wagon, and dragons. Yes, dragons.

Rocca is an expert researcher and storyteller. He draws on these skills here. With his dogged reporting and trademark wit, Rocca brings these men and women back to life like no one else can. Mobituaries is an insightful and unconventional account of the people who made life worth living for the rest of us, one that asks us to think about who gets remembered, and why.

Thoroughly enjoyed!!

This audiobook is delightful! I heard about people I hadn't thought about in years (if ever) Mo Rocca treats his subjects with respect and humor. I'm sure my fellow IKEA shoppers were wondering what I was chuckling about (or where my keeper had wandered off to.)

My kind of fun

I love obscure history. While not every obituary here is about an obscure person, the tidbits aren’t well-known, and therefore, attract me like a moth to flame. Mo’s delivery is part of the charm. I enjoyed it very much.

Well Done

Mo does a great job bringing the dead to relevancy. He spind a good yarn with a gread deal of compassion. I looked forward to it as he read it and was disappointed when he was through.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

This was a really great detour for me from all the tech and political reading as of late. Mo does an awesome job narrating. There are so many nuggets in this book that are fascinating for many reasons. The fact that he chose lesser known people people in history to profile is refreshing. A few of the facts I had foreknowledge of, but almost all of the content was new and, in many ways, eye-opening. We truly do not know the details around most humans and what drives them make the choices that they do, and to see how some of these people helped influence and shape our world was fun to learn.

Two thumbs up. If you want to just escape for a little bit and really enjoy something, this is the book,

Excellent!!! I laugh snd learned!

Such an excellent use of time! So many interesting stories and people. I especially liked the people I’d never heard of and was sad when their stories were over! ❤️

Marvelous!

Mo Rocca highlights the best, and some of the worst, lives that need to be remembered. This was very entertaining. There is humor. sadness, love and anger, all expressed eloquently just the way Mo tells stories on CBS Sunday Morning.

good listening

for the most part very enjoyable. some of the early history dragged on a bit, other than that I like Mo. like hi. on Sunday morning, and his Henry Ford show (Saturday morning) in all good.
