About this listen

In Mobfather, George Anastasia exposes what it really means to be married to the mob—and fathered by it. As revealed in their harrowing personal accounts, life for the wife and sons of Thomas "Tommy Del" DelGiorno became a descent into hell. When Maryann Welch ignored misgivings on her wedding day and plunged into marriage with the small-time gangster, she could not have foreseen how swiftly his greed and bloodlust would propel him to the highest ranks of the South Philadelphia Mafia.

In the end, guilty of a raft of crimes that included multiple murders, Tommy Del served less than a year in prison in exchange for turning government witness during a dozen trials against fellow mobsters.

Revisiting his gangland classic, the author follows up on the fates of all the major players. Based on years of reporting, thousands of pages of court testimony, and extensive interviews, Mobfather takes the listener deep into the heart of corruption.

Contains mature themes.

The accent on this guy! lol

Very cool book. Almost done, enjoying it so far. Kind of an interesting listen for me as I am related to Tommy. His my fathers cousin. Sounds pretty accurate but a few differences from the version I was told... not sure if the discrepancies are on the story's side or my family's. Could go either way. The relatives could be skipping a few details and painting a slightly better picture or the ex-wife could be a bit harsh. Either or both are very possible. The one thing that kills be tho is the accent on this dude! lol I grew up in the South Jersey/Philly area and we do not sound this bad. Sure we have a specific sound but I can't not hear the over pronunciations of things with long O's. All good, just small peeves. Makes me laugh tho. Would love to find more books about the Philly mafia. The mob genre is saturated with New York stuff. The local history is pretty wild all things considered and one of the bloodiest pieces of mob history when we reach the Nicky Scarfo era.

Great listen

The first real mob story told from a family side and well done. Some of the best coverage of a mob life from the inside.

Great story

Really interesting hearing about mob life from the perspective of a wife and son. If you’re already familiar with Philly mob history this book gives a different context.

Agree with what another reviewer said about the narrator’s accent- sounds like it might be Baltimore? A little quirky but doesn’t make the book less enjoyable.
