About this listen

Nothing escapes the snooping opera glasses of Miss Elizabeth Mapp. She whiles away her busy hours observing the small English village of Tilling, and recording the antics in her notebook. But her observations are set to be disrupted by amorous advances of two retired army generals, both vying for her affection. With Miss Mapp distracted, who will keep Miss Susan Poppit in her place or oversee the correct playing of bridge? More importantly will quiet Tilling be subject to a violent duel?

Tilling folk would call it “delicious”

Listening to a story is very little different than reading it. Miss Mapp’s face and figure are sketched by the author, as are the other characters. The town of Tilling, the train ride to the near by golf course, are described beautifully, leaving the details to filled in by your own imagination.
E. F. Benson, son of a priest who became the Archbishop of Canterbury, protects the identity of, what surely must be, real life characters with sublime, page turning satire. Listening and laughing with every dialogue, simultaneously musing about similar fallen souls who crossed your own path.

A favorite brought to delicious fruition

Having been one of my favorites for over twenty years, to hear Miriam Margolyes’ tour de force of characterizations has inspired even more fondness for this series
