About this listen

Spinster Amelia accepts a position as a companion to her social-climbing aunt who is planning her next wedding before she is even out of mourning for her second husband. And the man her aunt is stalking is none other than the wealthy widower, the Duke of Caversham.

Horrified by her aunt's behavior, Amelia decides to hide away in their host's library and gardens for the duration of their visit. On an evening walk through the maze she meets an older gentleman who intrigues and arouses her. She flees without learning his name, only to stumble across that same handsome gentleman in the library days later, where to Amelia's astonishment, he kisses her. And she kisses him back!

Amelia and the duke are caught in their passionate embrace by her aunt. Embarrassed at her own wanton behavior, Amelia flees the room believing he's used her to avoid her aunt. After confronting her aunt, the duke does what he believes is the honorable thing and makes plans to marry Amelia.

Only he never asks her.

Miss Amelia and the Duke

First, I'll say the cover for this book suits the story so well! I love that the the Duke, being close to 50, is still portrayed as a v handsome and virile man, with just a touch of gray at his temples. Amelia is a very likeable, strong, female character that you can't help but appreciate. Being older herself, 29, and supposedly "on the shelf", it is so refreshing to read a tender love story white characters that were closer to my own age rather than the a beautiful, young, 18 year old lead female character who is closer to my daughter's age. I really enjoy all of my historical love stories but found it refreshing to be able to identify a bit closer with the characters. The writing is excellent, and for the audio to use both a male and female narrator, it made the audio book come to life. Both the male and female narrators did an outstanding job! I'm sure all of my friends will enjoy this audio book very much! I was fortunate enough to be given my copy of the audio, so I really needed to let those who may be unsure about buying an audio book, that I'm sure they will fall in love with them after listening.

Landed.... that makes it sound like she tried!

Miss Amelia lands a duke.... not the title I would give it, but that's all right . This is a sweet simple story that feels like a teaser of a prequel. But it's not. I read the next book, these characters aren't mentioned. Most of the issues this story was built on were never resolved and I find that frustrating! It wasn't a waste of time, but I won't ever listen again.

The idea of using two narrators is excellent in this case as his voice is deep and older sounding and hers was young and light, both fit the characters. It's always a shock when they switch as it pulls you out of the book for a moment and detracts from the experience. By the end of this short tale I was almost used to it.

Worth a credit? I can't remember but I don't think it cost as much as a credit (it sat in my library a long time before I actually got around to listening to it.).

Heat? A little. There is some steam and some sex but it's tastefully handled.

Great story & oerformances

I already have the book on my Kindle and read and listen at the same time. The book is well written and the performances by the readers exceptional. what an incredibly wonderful love story. I have all the books in this series so far and love each one.

3 hours of listening to an underdeveloped plot.

Would you try another book from Sandy Raven and/or Dennis Kleinman and Victoria J. Mayers ?

Not if it it remotely like this one.

Would you ever listen to anything by Sandy Raven again?

Yes but it must be a full length book.

What three words best describe Dennis Kleinman and Victoria J. Mayers ’s voice?

Dennis - old, stuffy, aristocratic
Victoria - elegant, feminine, pleasing

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

Any additional comments?

Did the author die before finishing this? Three hours of undeveloped plot line. Very disappointing.
