About this listen

As soon they are released, Amanda Quick’s romances shoot to the top of best seller lists. With over 22 million copies of her books in print, she is one of today’s hottest authors. Set in Regency-era England, Mischief offers a sparkling mixture of wit and intrigue that has become Quick’s trademark.

Beautiful, headstrong Imogen Waterstone has recruited the darkly infamous Earl of Colchester to help her seek revenge for the murder of her best friend. As they set a trap for the villain, Imogen and Colchester fearlessly encounter the threats and dangers that come their way. But they are both unprepared for the dizzying passion sparked by their partnership. Amanda Quick’s light, breezy style captures the sophisticated nuances of the 19th century British social world that surrounds these two unconventional allies. Filled with spirited dialogue delivered by the incomparable talent of narrator Barbara Rosenblat, Mischief is a thoroughly delightful adventure.

Meh

Same formula as usual for Amanda quick. Didn’t like this one as much as some of her other books because the heroine was a little too naive and oblivious for my liking. Usually her heroines seem more strong, smart, independent and useful. This one was independent and stubborn in a oblivious way where she made rash, stupid decisions and stuck to them. Liked the hero

Wrong Narrator - Could Not Finish

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The narrator sounds like a husky middle-aged woman but the main female character is supposed to be in her 20s. I could not reconcile the two and had to stop listening.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Barbara Rosenblat?

A narrator with a voice like that of Lucy Price-Lewis, Caroline Lee, or Ellen Archer.

Another great story.

As usual, a great story that takes you to a more formal time, with a good mystery, a strong woman, and a hero that is easy to believe in.

Had to replace paperbacks--thieving friends

suspense, murder, artifact, romance, mystery, historical-novel, reread, social-issues

Another one from the prolific Quick that I have reread in print and own in audio.
Yes, it is romantic suspense, has erotica, and the snarks sneak up on you. Publisher's blurb suggests the plot, but there is more fun to it, and the characters do remind me of a few folks that I have worked with. It is a lightweight, fun read with a mere hint of supernatural and a side order of social issues still present today.
Can't go wrong with Barbara Rosenblatt as the audio performer.

Perfect

Some say Quick has a formula and she does a perfect one—there is the evil villain hiding in plain sight (Love the suspense) a romance that starts off rocky, a flawed h who you grow to love, a strong H whose gruff manner is endearing and a strong if surprising finish. Quick is a master writer who keeps my interest as I try to uncover the villain. As I said perfection. I also like the little tidbits of historical facts found throughout the book and the loving is a little naughty. Again Perfection

Quick is quick witted as always

She never fails to have me laughing out loud at her characters ironic attitudes towards one another. Her quick witted females are always a joy to read about.

Campy story this side of TSTL

The Publisher’s Summary for the book gives the minimum info with a lot of flowery promotion-advertising.
I found Imogen to often be almost Too Stupid To Live, then say something almost profound. It’s what made it possible for me to give this book an ok rating. I couldn’t connect or identify with her character which left only ok entertainment value.
I got a kick out of Lord Colchester arriving at night with no servants and he goes into the first bedroom to sleep - in a sarcophagus. This, along with the maid screaming in the morning felt like the author spent many youthful hours with the 3 Stooges, the Marx Brothers and campy spooky movies that had more laughs than scary parts.
Rosenblat did an ok job with narration.

the narration was superb.

the narrator did all sorts of accents and switched pitch and style and speed to keep with the flow of the book.

Great book

This is a great romance but also has a very intriguing mystery. I love all the Amanda Quick books and this one is one of my favorites. Highly recommended.
