About this listen
The Metro books have put Dmitry Glukhovsky in the vanguard of Russian speculative fiction alongside the creator of Night Watch, Sergei Lukyanenko. A year after the events of Metro 2033, the last few survivors of the apocalypse, surrounded by mutants and monsters, face a terrifying new danger as they hang on for survival in the tunnels of the Moscow Metro. Featuring blistering action, vivid and tough characters, claustrophobic tension and dark satire, the Metro books have become bestsellers across Europe.

It was the end of World War II. FDR's New Deal had redefined American politics. Taxes were at an all-time high. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had created a fear of total annihilation. The rise of secret government agencies and sanctions on business had many watching their backs. America's sense of freedom was diminishing... and many were desperate to take that freedom back.

Arkady and Boris Strugatsky are widely considered the greatest of Russian science fiction masters, yet the novel they worked hardest on, the one that was their own favorite and that listeners worldwide have acclaimed their magnum opus, has never before been published in English. The Doomed City was so politically risky that the Strugatskys kept its existence a secret even from their closest friends for 16 years. For the first time ever, the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society has produced an audio recording of all of Lovecraft's stories. These are not dramatizations like our Dark Adventure Radio Theatre - rather, this is an audiobook of the original stories, in all-new, never-before-heard recordings made by the HPLHS' own Andrew Leman and Sean Branney exclusively for this collection. This collection spans his entire career from his earliest surviving works of childhood to stories completed shortly before his death. All tales include original music by HPLHS composer Troy Sterling Nies.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Story
In Matheson's vampire classic I Am Legend, a plague has decimated the world and transformed the unfortunate survivors into bloodthirsty creatures of the night. Robert Neville is the last living man on Earth. Every other man, woman, and child has become a vampire hungry for Neville's blood. By day he is the hunter, stalking the sleeping undead through the abandoned ruins of civilization. By night he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn. Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Very different from Metro: Last Light
This was an amazing story, as to be expected of the metro series. Dark and haunting, very different from the game.

Amazing
Such an awesome book. The main character from the previous book doesn't have much of a role in it, but it has new characters and old that show them in different light.

Not nearly as good as 2033. Disappointing storyline, disappointing ending. I listen to almost everything twice, would not listen again.

Good, but not good enough imo
First off, as someone who loved the first book, this second one was slightly disappointing. It took about half of the book for me to get engaged and into the events of the story. First half seemed like one huge ramble with multiple different trains of thought and ideas. At times, it was confusing when the story would switch perspectives, or rather, too abrupt. Once the timelines coincided, it was easier to follow and became more enjoyable. The second half of the book was superb and reminiscent of the first book.

Lacks everything that made the first book amazing
Starts out interesting and thrilling, but then the story turns out to be flat and linear without any thrill. The characters are boring, cliché, and two dimensional.

Still a strong outing for a fantastic series
The main flaw with Metro 2034 is that it barely follows the main character, Artyom, from the previous book. Instead, it introduces several other less interesting characters and relegates him to the background. The story is not as compelling as the first novel and instead focuses on a deadly pandemic ravishing the metro.
Still, the same incredible worldbuilding applies to this work. The weird and dark world of the Metro continues to pervade every chapter of this work. Strange occurrences, power conflicts and the struggle to survive are all present. While not the best of the series, 2034 is still a great listen.
