Publisher's summary

You’ve Got Mail meets The Proposal—this romance is one for the books.

Savannah Cade’s dreams are coming true. The Claire Donovan, editor-in-chief of the most successful romance publishing company in the country, has requested to see the manuscript Savannah’s been secretly writing. The only problem: she’s an editor for a different company, and their philosophy is only highbrow works are worth printing and romance should be reserved for the lowest level of Dante’s inferno.

But when Savannah drops her manuscript during a staff meeting and nearly exposes herself to the whole company—including William Pennington, the new boss and son of the romance-despising CEO herself—she has no choice but to hide the manuscript in a hidden room.

When she returns, she’s dismayed to discover that someone has not only been in her hidden nook but has written notes in the margins—quite critical ones. But when Claire’s own reaction turns out to be nearly identical to the scribbled remarks, and worse, Claire announces that Savannah has six weeks to resubmit before she retires, Savannah finds herself forced to seek the help of the shadowy editor after all.

As their notes back and forth start to fill up the pages, however, Savannah finds him not just becoming pivotal to her work but her life. There’s no doubt about it: she’s falling for her mystery editor. If she only knew who he was.

Meet Me in the Margins is a delightfully charming jewel of a book that fans of romantic comedy won’t be able to put down!” — Kristy Woodson Harvey, New York Times bestselling author of Under the Southern Sky

Critic reviews

"Ferguson (The Cul-de-Sac War) enchants with this whimsical tale set against the evergreen culture war between literary and commercial fiction . . . An idealistic, competent heroine, a swoon-worthy hero, and delightfully quirky supporting characters bolster this often hilarious send up of the publishing industry, which doubles as a love letter to the power of stories. The is sure to win Ferguson some new fans." (Publishers Weekly)

So good! So cute!

The story started off a bit slow but it turned out to be the perfect pace for the sweet ending. I’m so wary of romance bestsellers but this one is so good! Just enough sweetness and spark with no language or blush-worthy scenes. Loved the transformations and lessons learned. Great read overall!

Great premise, pretty good execution

I loved the premise, and overall the story was enjoyable. Definitely worth a read. Some minor criticisms are that some character and story elements seemed a bit unbelievable, and the chemistry (outside the margins) is not compelling. I get that the protagonist is supposed to be an "average" woman and no one can objectively edit their own work, but her first draft was appallingly bad. And she's an editor but she's impressed by the word "bailiwick" and other thesaurus words? Hard to see why the mystery editor was impressed. Also, how did they have so much time during the work day to hide away and edit her book?? Still, it was a fun, light read. The narrator seemed a bit too serious for the character sometimes, but was nice to listen to.

funny and coean

I didn't think there were many wholesome romances bring published. I really liked this one and have listened several times. The setting (a publishing house) and the back story (main character's boyfriend left her in order to propose to her sister) plus the interesting language make this story memorable

Ups and downs, miscommunication and weird coworkers.

I really enjoyed this book, characters with depth and heart, loyalty and love.

My only complaint is that your editors need to learn when to use the word begrudge. In nearly every single instance the word that should have been used is grudge!
