I really like the McNally books. Always well written and great stories. The best ones were the early ones written by Sanders himself.

Always Good

One of my favourite series. Author and narrator deliver a truly livable scamp in Archibald.

Do one!

MCNALLY'S SECRET BY LAWRENCE SANDERS is the first in the Archie McNally series and in this humble listener, the best! Archis is the "SON" in Mcnally and Son attorney at law in Palm Beach. Archie is NOT an attorney but head and only person who is in charge of "discrete inquiries" for the law Firms clients. When the wealthy want help but don't want the police or the press involved, they go to McNally and Son. In McNally's Secret, Archie is tasked to quietly find four inverted Jenny stamps stolen from Lady Cynthia Horowitz. What starts out as a quiet ho hum investigation leads to murder and Archie is right smack in the middle of it all. Archie is also, during the investigation wanting to know why Lady C is lying about her whereabouts and takes it upon himself to find that out as well.

I love Archie McNally's Secret. I have lost count of how many times I have listen to or read this book. Each time I laugh at Archie, and continue to love Archie and all of his discrete inquiries !

THE FIRST OF ARCHIE MCNALLY'S CRAZY CASES!

Let's face it, Sanders is not Dickens or Follett or Vince Flynn. He's fun. The McNally series is just one of those books to grab when you want a complete and total escape. It moves well, it dances poignantly, and it leaves you with a constant smile.

I read the whole series in print, and in my mind, I had the voices and nuances. It took me a couple of chapters to get my mind in sync with Victor Bevine. By the time the book was finished, I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.

The McNally plots are almost always the same, but who cares. I'm going to download them all ... in fact I would have done so, but the 87th Precinct Series has just started to go audio. So many books, and only two ears.

Story is cheesy, characters cheesier, I love it!

Probably next week Archy McNally's "Adventure of the Inverted Jennies" will flow completely out of my memory. So what? There are deserts that were so delightful I'll recommend them to everyone who asks. Deserts don't change lives. Don't direct or even inform them. But they can be delightful, huh?

That's what this craftily prepared story is… Archy lives in a note-perfect, imaginary culture that evokes Fred and Ginger twirling through platinum and crystal settings. Victor Bevine ices Sanders' cake thick with stylish characters who you'll see and hear and enjoy.

I'm off to download another order of Archy from the Lawrence Sanders' section of the Audio bookshelf. Dunno about you, but I may not remember the details of a perfect desert, yet when I see it on the menu, I'll order it quicker than the summer heat rises in posh Boca Raton.

One word for this book…. "Yummy!"

Forgettable? Yeah, Like A Savory Rich Desert!

If I'm going to partake of a light-hearted, even silly detective series, I'll take Sanders over Evanovich any day.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Light hearted. Archie is flawed but humorous and dogged to get to the truth. It's just fun!!!

Great for the beach or a rainy afternoon.

What did you love best about McNally's Secret?

I loved the dialogue between the characters. I usually enjoy mysteries and detective series but I really enjoyed this easy, lighthearted book. It was fun. The narrator did a fantastic job.

Any additional comments?

I thought the narrator did a fabulous job! The only negative of the book was the mention of the "flying jennys" just one too many times.

Entertaining and Fun

I heard about this series years ago. I used to work with someone who loved these books. He tried to tell me how much fun they were. Somehow, I never got around to them. This is light escapist fun with a rakish titular protagonist and a winning supporting cast! Recommended if you want to enjoy a light mystery with a character you'd like to share a meal with. Moreover, Victor Bevine's performance of the reading seems to capture Archy's attitudes about life well.

My First McNally won't be My Last!
