About this listen

Finding the right venture capitalist to back your start-up is a challenge. Even if you manage to get backing, you want your VC to be a partner, not some dictator who will undermine your vision and take control of your life's work. Jeffrey Bussgang is one of a very few people who have played on both sides of this high-stakes game. Now he draws on his unique perspective to offer high-level insights, colorful stories, and practical advice gathered from his own experience as well as from interviews with dozens of the most successful entrepreneurs and VCs. He reveals how to get noticed, perfect a pitch, and negotiate a partnership that works for everyone.

good overview of vc business, from the perspective of VCs and entrepreneurs. a little bit of bla bla blah in the beginning but very good high level content for the remainder of the book.

The best book in the VC category

Read a dozen of books in the VC category and found it’s the most realistic and practical one. Hope I had this book earlier

Starts slow, gets real good later

Like others have said, this book's beginning is really fluffy and insubstantial. But once he starts talking about entrepreneurship from the VC's perspective, it gets to be worthwhile

Enjoyed this book. Full of inside knowledge

Plenty of good info such as term sheet terminology, exit scenarios. Do's and don'ts when dealing with VCs.
Readers voice was pleasant and steady.

Good information but still left with lots of questions

This book, while informative, was not exhaustive IMHO. Possibly I am an idiot, but I am left with lots of questions. So… I’m off to the next book to see if I can patch the gaps I still have. Still worth reading/listening it seems. More of a starting point than an instruction manual to “mastering the VC game” if you ask me.

Very Basic Material

Would not recommend this for anyone with a basic knowledge of Venture Capital. Insight is very sparse... a bit in Chapter 7, but otherwise totally void.

Mehh

As an entrepreneur and small business owner looking to expand my company, I struggled to find actionable advice in this book.
There was no shortage of stories from the golden years, over seas success, and the soap opera personalities you might come across in the VC realm, but none of those are the reason I purchased this book nor did they provide insight into achieving first round capital.
