About this listen

This is a prequel to the Ancient Dreams trilogy, but is best read after the other volumes.

Some mysteries are shrouded by both time and wars long since past. One of these mysteries revolves around the discovery of the true nature of magic, and the High Mage who ushered in a new era of understanding. Her name was Marin, and her life's work was consumed in the writing of her research.

This is Marin's story, and that of her only student, Emonael, as they completed her research. They faced many trials together, and grew to respect one another as few have ever understood, even as others sought to silence the threat she posed to their power.

This volume also contains a novella, Into the Eternal Wood, a story about Sistina Constella of the Kingdom of Everium.

Good stuff

I really enjoy the story but I’m not a huge fan of the lady performing it

great short story that expands on the main series but I think someone could still enjoy this without reading the rest.

great prequel

An excellent entry into the series that lacks many of the plot faults found in other prequels.
The side story is nice as well and answers a plot detail that was reveled in the 3rd book. I hope we continue to to follow Marin on her journey in this awesome world of magic.

A brilliant prequel

I thoroughly enjoyed the first three books in the series so when I saw there was a prequel I was at first skeptical I hate being disappointed by Add-ones after the original story but this storyline dragged me in just as much if not more than the original did Benjamin Medrano Did a brilliant Job reading this book along with the series as a whole I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what else he might make in the future especially for ancient dreams

Sad but hopeful

After readingthe trilogy this book follows up nicely being a prequel stroy yet having to read it after reading the trilogy made it all the better. the Codex story was excellent getting insight into Marin and knowing what she becomes and who she becomes was quite entertaining yet sad as a story came to a close. my only complaint is some of the conversations and all of the books are a little drawn out as there is too much information in the actual conversation. sometimes the actual conversation flow could be a bit better with a sentence being a bit shorter or maybe some of the descriptors being changed up slightly.at times there are just some parts of the conversation that are a little unnecessary as they could be wrapped up with two or three words rather than being spoken out as they are. other than that is a very enjoyable story and I'm planning to read it all again real soon.

Surprisingly Awesome!!

My expectations weren't high coming into this book. The narrator changed and in a way, we, the readers of Book 1-3, would know the general storyline of this book. What we don't know is how Medrano will write it.

And it was much better than anticipated. I expected a "building" type of plot, which it was. It was building/developing Medrano's magic system. But there is a lot more, a lot of bonding and character background.

As for Goer, it works. Book 1-3 is a dark fantasy so the other narrator was great for that. This is not and Goer's more cheery voice is amazing and fits the book well.

I actually shed tears.
