Publisher's summary

Malique Laveaux is a 15-year-old misfit with multi-toned skin. He's an orphan and often spends time alone, until one day he runs into a flower shop. There, he meets the owner, Sokie Roberts and her 10-year-old niece, Lani. He feels connected to them somehow.

As time progresses, Lani informs Malique she has dreams about him. One of the dreams includes him aboard a ship being manhandled by two burly men demanding he take his shirt off so they can see the map on his back.

Then strange things start to happen. One of the most beautiful girls from school, Clarissa Jones, suddenly takes notice of Malique. Even a Professor of History turns up on his doorstep, claiming to be an old friend of his biological mother. The professor also insists that his sister is still alive.

Is his sister truly alive? Could the pattern on Malique's skin actually be a map?

Good old fashioned fun!

Any additional comments?

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest unbiased review. I can't wait to listen to more by this author! I enjoy the exciting plot and unique characters. However, I had a hard time listening to the narration. I wasn't impressed with the quality of the recording, or the animation of the characters. Despite that, I would still use a credit to buy this book!

Malique's Quest

"This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast."

An adventure to find out who Malique really is. Most of the novel was spell-binding. Some minor editing to reduce duplicate words in sentences that are too close together, would be more listener friendly. Is there going to be a second book? I am curious where this is leading, or are we supposed to create the next phase in his life?

A compelling YA title.

Malique's Quest is a compelling YA title. I was intrigued by this adventure to discover who Malique really is all about. The characters are nice and the pacing of the plot is well delivered. The open ending hints at a sequel I believe. Nicely done.

A great adventure which left me wanting more!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Malique's Quest to be better than the print version?

I thought that the narration was very good and added to the story. It also brought the characters to life. Very good.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Malique and Lani were the two characters that stood out for me. The story centres around Malique's life and identity so it was easy to get caught up into the focus on the main character. The secondary characters are also good though.

Which character – as performed by Giselle Lumas – was your favorite?

Malique's character is my favourite and the narration, whilst brining the story and all the characters to life, was especially good in relation to the main character.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

When everyone starts to take an interest in you, who do you trust?

Needs professional narrator

Any additional comments?

Interesting concept.

While an interesting concept the writing is flat. Although this could be because of the narration.

Who am I? Is my sister alive? Is my skin a map? What is the mystery surrounding Malique?

Malique finds out he has been living within a couple blocks to his sister and aunt and didn’t know it. His father is a voodoo priest. Malique and his sister Lani must solve the mystery surrounding the map on his skin.

Audio quality is not professional sounding. It has a hollow sound. The narration is flat and stilted for the most part. Sounds like it just being read and doesn’t flow smoothly. A professional voice actor is needed. The story is about a 15 year old boy. A male narrator with a young voice is needed to bring this story to life. If I had purchased the book I would have returned it because of the narration. A narrator can ruin an otherwise good story and that is the cast here.
