About this listen
From Beth Kobliner, the author of the best-selling personal finance bible Get a Financial Life - a new must-have guide showing parents how to teach their children (from toddlers to young adults) to manage money in a smart way.
Many of us think we can have the "money talk" when our kids are old enough to get it...which won't be for years, right? But get this: Research shows that even preschoolers can understand basic money concepts, and a study from Cambridge University confirmed that basic money habits are formed by the age of seven. Oh, and research shows the number one influence on kids' financial behaviors is mom and dad. Clearly, we can't afford to wait.
Make Your Kid a Money Genius (Even If You're Not) is a jargon-free step-by-step guide to help parents of all income levels teach their kids - from ages 3 to 23 - about money. It turns out the key to raising a money genius isn't to teach that four quarters equal a dollar or how to pick a stock. Instead it's about instilling values that have been proven to make people successful - not just financially but in life: delaying gratification, working hard, living within your means, getting a good education, and acting generously toward others. More specifically, you'll learn why allowance isn't the Holy Grail when teaching your kid to handle money and why after-school jobs aren't always the answer either. You'll discover the right age to give your kid a credit card and learn why doling out a wad of cash can actually be a good parenting move.
You don't need to be a money genius to make your kid a money genius. Regardless of your comfort level with finance - or your family's income - this charming and fun book is an essential guide for passing along enduring financial principles, making your kids wise beyond their years - and peers - when it comes to money.

Story
We may not realize it, but children are hyperaware of money. They have scores of questions about its nuances that parents often don't answer, or know how to answer well. But for Ron Lieber, a personal finance columnist and father, good parenting means talking about money with our kids much more often. When parents avoid these conversations, they lose a tremendous opportunity—not just to model important financial behaviors, but also to imprint lessons about what their family cares about most.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

We want our children to succeed, to be their best, and to do their best, but what if they are not on board? A few years ago, Ned Johnson and Bill Stixrud started noticing the same problem from different angles: even high-performing kids were coming to them acutely stressed and lacking any real motivation. Many complained that they had no real control over their lives.

No new info very basic
If you know absolutely nothing about money then you may need to hear this. Otherwise there is nothing special about this book. Sorry

Makes a better book than an audiobook
I enjoyed this audiobook , but I think it's a better book. The content and the performance are great , but you find yourself wasting half your time listening to advice that are not necessarily applicable yet because your child hasn't reached some of those stages or is already passed them. When it's a book, you can see from the heading which sections do not necessarily apply to you and just skip them, but it's not so simple when you're listening, so a lot of precious time is wasted.

Un libro bueno
El libro está muy bien, enseña cosas buenas y buenas prácticas financieras que pueden aplicar.
El único detalle es que está muy enfocado al mercado a las familias de EUA y no tanto para el mercado mexicano..
pero en general muy bueno

The Bad:
-None
The Bottom Line:
I am quite familiar with personal finance but my wife has actually learned quite a bit from it!

Some good thoughts, but some very bad advice on debt.
I would have hoped for an actually responsible piece of advice on student loans like “tell your kids to avoid them at all costs.” But instead it continues the horrible and dangerous advice to be “responsible” with student loans. Great… and kids, while doing that, please play with fire while drinking brandy “carefully.” Have the guts to call student loans what they are. Horrible and always to be avoided.

no genius here, just basic common sense
Waste of time for anyone who already has any basic common sense of personal finance and certainly nothing to help your child become a "financial genius". Very disappointing.
