Publisher's summary

When life goes sideways, embracing the adventure is the fastest way to set things right.

One day I was just a widow facing the prospect of an empty nest, living a life that was anything but enchanted. The next, I had discovered my magical roots, and my rightful place as the Guardian of the portal between the Faery and Earth.

There was shock. And there was fear. After all, no one plans to start over at 45. I intended to grow old with my husband. I thought we’d live an ordinary life. So I’ll be damned if I’m going to waste this opportunity to live in a world I always thought was imaginary.

I’m half-witch, half-faery, and facing dangers as real as the ache in my bad knee. Ibuprofen and caffeine keep me going, and I could do this for the rest of my life. Whoever thinks my family home is an easy mark better take notice: The new Guardian in town isn’t going down without a fight.

After all, she’s already learned to let go of her simple existence and believe in the extraordinary power inside of her. What could possibly stop her now?

Not too bad

It's a pretty good book, the plot is interesting, the characters are a little predictable, dialog is close to feeling natural (but just missing some of the time). The narrator does a number of voices and accents which is nice. I have become vested enough in the story that Book 2 is on the horizon.

Nice beginning to a new series

Brenda Trim crafted a good storyline to start her new series. The characters were well developed and seemed to be more like friends than characters.
Naomi Rose-Mock gave a wonderful performance as she brought everything to life. I look forward to the next in this series.

Great story 👏

the storyline was awesome, but there was a lot of dead air with the telling or reading of the story

The complexity of the characters are really interesting. Loving this Series!!

The story line is intriguing with different realms and different stories within each realm. I'm really enjoying the books & the reader is really great !

Good story almost ruined by narration pauses

I enjoyed this story and the narrator is wonderful with the voices and accents BUT there were constant blank spaces in the narration that really detracted from the flow of the story. I like the characters enough to get the next book but I hope the narration improves in the next book.

Punctuation is there for a reason

Over all the storyline is good.

The narrator sometimes skips full stops, and just keeps going. Sometimes you need to listen very carefully to get the gist.

Chapters are sometimes announced, most of the times not.

So all in all the narration is a bit weird, but you get used to it.

Hard to listen to

The actual storyline interests me and is intriguing, well written. However the narrator was distracting because of her long pauses and it seemed like she had a cold.

You could also hear background noise sometimes. I would like to hear the narrator when she's having a good day. Hopefully she doesn't always sound like she needs to blow her nose.

Amazing start to a series

Simply fantastic from start to finish. The characters and the story are not dull and boring. They are well developed and the narrator brought it to life. I've had issues getting into books or finding iffy narration lately and his broke my slump. Well worth a precious credit. I'm on to book 2 already!!
