Publisher's summary

GOOD MORNING AMERICA BOOK CLUB PICK • A soul-stirring novel about what we choose to keep from our past and what we choose to leave behind, from the New York Times bestselling author of Wish You Were Here and the bestselling author of She’s Not There

Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business.

Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

And for just a short while, these new beginnings are exactly what Olivia and Lily need. Their paths cross when Asher falls for the new girl in school, and Lily can’t help but fall for him, too. With Ash, she feels happy for the first time. Yet at times, she wonders if she can trust him completely. . . .

Then one day, Olivia receives a phone call: Lily is dead, and Asher is being questioned by the police. Olivia is adamant that her son is innocent. But she would be lying if she didn’t acknowledge the flashes of his father’s temper in Ash, and as the case against him unfolds, she realizes he’s hidden more than he’s shared with her.

Mad Honey is a riveting novel of suspense, an unforgettable love story, and a moving and powerful exploration of the secrets we keep and the risks we take in order to become ourselves.

Amazing book

As a long-time fan of Jodi Picoult, I preordered Mad Honey, knowing I would love it. As a psychologist who treats transgendered youth in clinical practice, this book makes me respect Jodi’s dedication to her craft even more than I had previously. She’s taken a topic that drastically needed to be tackled and created a beautiful work to help folks understand the difficult path of coming out to oneself and to others as a transgendered individual. I believe this book will save lives. Thank you to both authors for their obvious dedication to creating a novel full of emotion, a suspenseful and compelling story, and full of actual research in the true Picoult-seque manner. I will be recommending this book frequently personally and professionally as the story as a teachable moment for all of us.

Riveting and enlightening

I listen to books while taking walks. I could hardly wait for my next walk to further listen to this fantastic, meaningful book. Jodi Picoult must have a team of researchers as her books, including this one, are usually loaded with information on, as some examples, autism, elephants, organ transplants, transgenders, bee keeping, etc. I am in awe of this and her on-spot, gorgeous writing style. Some reviewers on Audible had trouble with the main theme of Mad Honey. This is such a shame, in my opinion. Our world has so many kinds of people who all have value. I am so grateful that Ms. Picoult and her coauthor provided such clear and compassionate information on a hot button topic. It should open the eyes and hearts of the listeners/readers. 5 stars.

WOW well done and educational

Not only was this an entertaining and endearing book which contained lots of interesting information about bees and honey making but it also gave great insight into what it takes to become a trans woman at a time when society needs DESPERATELY to be educated. The mention of the blood condition TTP was interesting as well. Highly recommend this book!

Grateful

I heard about this book on the view but didn’t realize what the story line was about until it was revealed. My sister raises bees so I thought it would enlighten me on that topic and instead it opened up a world that I knew very little about. My profession was a interior designer so I have lived with many gay individuals and have come to understood many of the trails they live with on a daily basis. This book has truly been a gift to me. The authors have you walk in the characters shoes giving insights into their worlds. So many of us who have not walked in someone else’s shoes whether it’s the person or those supporting them are so quick to judge and condemn things we no nothing about. The hurts run so deep. I am so glad you have shown us the journey that these characters have lived. They may be fictional but I am sure their stories aren’t. We need to hear them so that we might in someway be able to support them along the way. This not only applies to this but to abuse, rape, abortion etc. Stop for a moment and walk in some else’s shoes before you react unkindly. Gain some understanding in the topic no matter how foreign it is to you. I thank you for this book.

LOVES IT!!

I loved everything about this book, and the narration. Jodi Picoult was among my favorite authors years ago, but the last couple of stories of hers were just OK to me. This one was among her best though!! She and Jennifer Finney Boylan made quite a team and it's clear that they really enjoyed writting it and felt passionately about the topic.

Another masterwork

Ive read many of Jodi’s books, and was hesitant about a co-authored one… but I have to say this was excellent. Especially the ending when the true cause for Lily’s death emerges.
What makes these stories so engaging is that they are all too real. To learn the characters’ stories is to learn something of ourselves as well.

I always love Jodi Picoult's writing and story lines. This collaboration was no different. The twists, surprises, heart wrenching prose made me wanting more.

Fantastic!!

What an excellent book. Jodi Picoult is my favorite author and I know I’ll never be disappointed in any of her books. But this one is especially fantastic because of the input from Jenny Boykin. This is a topic we all should know more about. Bravo!!
