GOOD MORNING AMERICA BOOK CLUB PICK • A soul-stirring novel about what we choose to keep from our past and what we choose to leave behind, from the New York Times bestselling author of Wish You Were Here and the bestselling author of She’s Not There

Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business.

Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

And for just a short while, these new beginnings are exactly what Olivia and Lily need. Their paths cross when Asher falls for the new girl in school, and Lily can’t help but fall for him, too. With Ash, she feels happy for the first time. Yet at times, she wonders if she can trust him completely. . . .

Then one day, Olivia receives a phone call: Lily is dead, and Asher is being questioned by the police. Olivia is adamant that her son is innocent. But she would be lying if she didn’t acknowledge the flashes of his father’s temper in Ash, and as the case against him unfolds, she realizes he’s hidden more than he’s shared with her.

Mad Honey is a riveting novel of suspense, an unforgettable love story, and a moving and powerful exploration of the secrets we keep and the risks we take in order to become ourselves.

Wonderful book - we all have a story

I really loved this book…such a compassionate and haunting story. It’s about love, about how each of us has our own story, about how and if we choose to share our stories with others, and about the resilience within us all. So well told…and the audio performance was also very moving and added to the haunting nature of it all.

Amazing story

Amazing story about what a mother wouldn't do for her child as well as a touching story about growing up different in the eyes of society. I don't want to give too much away but this story truly touched my heart as so could empathize with Lily's mom. A must read!

A Fully Enlightening Story- Who knew?

Lily and Ava’s story hit close to home. As the author of a memoir book on domestic violence, I so appreciated the writer’s completely different point of view.
Jodi always adds a little side story meant to teach readers about something entirely new and different. This time it was bees, another time it was eugenics. I’m smitten with that approach and it has inspired me to do the same.

Interwoven among the very human story of teenage lovers and grown up problems are fascinating clues about orchestras, wildlife, transgender issues, and even hockey. And, of course, the colorful and complicated lives of bees.
The first rule of writing is to make your readers care so much about the characters they will follow you anywhere. Jodi Picoult is a master of that rule as her characters worm their way into your very soul and invests the reader in all decisions, choices and outcomes made by vivid and easy-to-love characters.

You never know just how much smarter you will become as you follow the story and her bits of information will inspire you to learn more. She leaves you with a mission: study and learn about transgender people and, especially, the incredibly impossible and complicated science of bees.

Enlightened

This topic is dividing our community right now. I’m ashamed to admit this novel is my only experience with this difficult topic. Thank you for educating me. Sadly people like to choose sides, ignorance is no excuse for dangerous behavior.

Brilliant

Every bit of this book is beautiful. It’s complicated and raw. I highly recommend for anyone, especially if you aren’t sure what it means to be trans. Become educated through a brilliantly told storyline? Couldn’t ask for more. Well done, ladies. Well done.

Engaging, suspenseful, well written

This is the first book I couldn’t put down in quite some time. The storytelling is exquisite, the plot line well constructed, and the characters complex. The story lines weave in some very hot topic in American culture and politics, providing insightful, informative vision, while remaining true to the characters and the narrative!

Not my favorite, but good.

I liked this book but didnt love it like others from Jodi Picoult. I love the recurring character Jordan in Jodi's books but I felt the courtroom scenes were lacking. I think realistically there would have been a lot more to the case and the questioning of witnesses. I would have liked more of the case being fleshed out. I felt so many of Lily's parts just dragged on and I got bored in places. However, it was a good subject to write about and could be eye opening for some people.

Key Taw's narration of Lily grated on my nerves for some reason. I just really don't like her voice. It was boring and sounded too lethargic for my liking.

Great timing for this story!

This story was so interesting and informative and about such a sensitive subject! I loved every minute, and I learned so much and have more compassion toward all humans who struggle with who they are and who they want to be with. Written w
