About this listen

For as long as she can remember, Lydia Westland has dreamed of glittering London society. Finding herself at last in England, she is determined to make the most of this opportunity. Clutching her copy of Blunders in Behaviour Corrected she sets forth to find a suitably titled husband. But what she finds instead is Rhys Rhodes, a second son with a past that is anything but glittering. To Rhys, Lydia is everything he has lost - innocence, laughter, joy - and everything he cannot have.

Enjoyable, but predictable

Would you listen to Love with a Scandalous Lord again? Why?

I doubt it, because the narration was pretty flat. Accents were terrible, and there was very little characterization happening.

Any additional comments?

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. It might appeal to others more than it did me, of course, but I wasn't particularly impressed.

roller coaster of goodness

What made the experience of listening to Love with a Scandalous Lord the most enjoyable?

The ups, downs, wish it was, wish it wasn't and the....wish I could reach in there and shake them, fun! I cried, laughed, wanted to turn it off, never did turn it off ... just plain good!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Love with a Scandalous Lord?

Why would I purposely write a spoiler? You need to live it with them.... the very very best moments were the ones I won't tell you. ...

Which scene was your favorite?

In the middle of the ballroom.... I won't tell you when. But I felt that moment in my heart!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES YES YES YES YESSSSSSSSS! Actually..... I did!

Any additional comments?

The narrative was incredibly hard to get into... in the beginning I wondered a bit... but quickly enough the narrator was gone and the character's were in my head!

Enjoable listen

Enjoyed this story and the twists and turns were not always predictable like many stories. Will be listening to this story again sometime.

A Novel To Cherish

What did you love best about Love with a Scandalous Lord?

The original story line about an uncomplicated, lively young American girl, determined to conquer the London Ton.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Most interesting: how Lydia conquers her Lord.

Least interesting: nothing.

Have you listened to any of Robin Rowan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I hadn't listened to Ms Rowan before, so I can't compare.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I frequently laughed and cried.

So-So

Robin Rowan is more than a fair narrator, but the first half of the book was quite boring. The last half was more interesting, but not one I'd care to listen to again.

I doubt that I would recommend it, although it did have some redeeming qualities.

Well Done

I enjoy Lorraine Heath's books. This one was nicely done. No annoying "I can't love yous".
It's a bit of a new story line for a historical romance and that's always nice to have.
I loved the narration on this because the British accent wasn't so heavily done that it grated on my nerves. It was quite pleasant to listen to. It's worth the money or the credit.

Story Would Have Been Good Except...

I did not like the narration. I understand that in the 1800s the upper class English, all those Lords, Dukes and Dutcheses were rich and probably bored. But the narrator who I believe attempted to express this boredom made the characters sound extremely dull and of course, bored. There was one character, a dutchess who rants and raves in the beginning of the book. She woke me up. But then everybody sounded bored again, even the Texans in the book had those dull, drab, whispery (there goes that word again) bored voices.

Oh Susan Erickson, you have spoiled me with great narration and dramatic flair in the scoundrels series.

What a Disappointment!

What was most disappointing about Lorraine Heath’s story?

I am a big fan of Lorraine Heath, and have listened to many of her books, but honestly the narration was SO BAD that I didn't get past chapter 2. What a letdown. I may buy the paper copy and read the story, but I was disappointed in the audio version of her book.

Don't waste your credit

I can't believe some people gave this four stars! After 2 1/2 hours I just couldn't stand it any more and had to stop listening. The heroine is SO unappealing! She is a completely empty headed, uninteresting person! And the narrator gave me whiplash switching back and forth from a British accent to her American accent. Some of Lorraine Heath's books are so good, I can hardly believe this is the same author who wrote "Between the Devil and Desire" for example. I definitely wouldn't recommend this one!
