About this listen

Nicholas Hunt is the man I hate.

For good reason.

His opinion of me is tainted by prejudice even before my arrival at his grandmother’s estate, and my first impression of him is just as abysmal.

His arrogance and icy demeanor make it clear that he’s the type of man who’s best handled at a distance.

Fortunately, space shouldn’t be an issue inside this Gilded Age mansion and its lush gardens. If I stick with the servants and he keeps to his sailboat and vintage Porsche, we should hardly cross paths at all. Unfortunately, at Rosethorn, I find that all roads eventually lead to Nicholas Hunt.

Sparks fly as we spar at the dinner table. Fighting words are flung in the shadows of the palatial halls.

We hang suspended in our hatred of one another, painfully oblivious to the heat and tension that build with every moment we’re left alone. We’re liable to kill one another, I think…right up until my eyes land on his lips and a new feeling grips hold of me: lust.

What’s worse?

He knows it.

They say you should keep your enemies close, but when Nicholas tightens his grip on my waist and draws me near, I’m not sure if it’s out of loathing or love.

One thing’s for sure - I intend to find out.

great rags to riches/enemies to lovers story

I really enjoyed this steamy rags to riches romance. Main character Maren wrestles with her past in foster care and must pull herself out of a hole created by a decision made in a single night. While she feels her new life at Rosethorn, courtesy of benefactor Cornelia is too good to be true, she is terrified of losing it. When Cordelia's protective nephew, Nicholas, shows up the sparks between him and Maren are undeniable.

Maren's back story felt real and poignant and her relationship with stranger, turned doting benefactor, Cornelia, was touching. However, I found myself questioning the portrayal of Newport wealth, thinking at times this story could have been set in 17th century England. The steamy scenes between Maren and Nicholas made up for any setting confusion entirely. Great read!

Love the One You Hate

Maren has had some hard knocks at life and in her current job she meets Cornelia, a very wealthy social lite who befriends Maren and gets her to come live with her on the pretense that she is doing a job.

Maren doesn't like things handed to her, so she does what she can to make it a job but Cornelia kind of cuts it off. It funny to listen to because Maren hasn't a clue why she is there but all the same she loves it. Then Maren meet’s Cornelia’s grandson, Nicholas Hunt, and its hate ate at first sight.

Nick thinks Maren is out to scam his grandmother and all he wants to do is protect.

The interaction are interesting and love that Maren keeps him on his toes. The sparks that come are smoken'. I really liked the way this book was laid out since I am usually not an enemies to lovers kind of person this book does it in the perfect way.

Great narration 100% would recommend.

A great author

I love RS Grey. I think stories are so creative. I've read just about all of her books. Her characters have varied careers, lives, goals, etc. She ties it all in to a romance in believable and charming ways. This book is great. I really loved the main character Maren and I loved her relationship with Cornelia. That to me, was the real love story. Sadly, I didn't get how Maren and Nick fell in love. I actually rewound to re-listen because I thought I missed how they went from hate to love. Regardless, Grey spins a great story with great characters and twists. She is a must read for me. I found this author through Audible Escape. I'm sad that my choice of authors will be limited with the removal of this program.

Who says two very different people can’t fall in love

A beautiful love story. Who says two very different people from very different backgrounds can’t fall in love?

Made Me Smile

I have always loved R.S. Grey’s books. They are passionate, funny, and inspiring at the same time. I love the fact that she doesn’t overuse profanity. I just smiled as I listened to the story. It was incredibly sweet and different than the typical love story. This is a love story between an elderly lady and a young girl who both needed each other, but at the same time the girl falls in love with the lady’s grandson after some fun “hateful” moments with him. It was just a feel good book and we all need something like because of 2020 being a horrible year. Maren is the heroine you root for because life didn’t treat her fairly. Despite all of that, she remained kind to everyone no matter how horribly they treated her.

She always uses amazing narrators to perform her books. Both actors were able to bring Nicolás and Maren to life.

Authors best

I love this book! How much you ask? So much that I started it one early afternoon and couldn’t stop it until I finished it at 2 am. I have a 4 mo old baby and extremely sleep deprived, but that still couldn’t convince me to turn this audible book of it was SO addicting! Not predictable, laughed, swooned, and day dreamed. Perfect story.

It grew on me

First I have enjoyed all the R.S. Grey books that I have listened to so far. This one was not my favorite but it also wasn't the worse book I listened too. I did finish it, I think the beginning was a bit of a struggle but the story did get better as I continued to listen. I look forward to more books by RS Grey.

The story drew me in

I felt like the descriptions of the daily routines of the characters was too involved at first, but in the end, it was necessary for Marin and Nicholas's relationship to be appreciated. I loved the family and friends and will definitely check out some other books by this author.
