Acerca de esta escucha

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of this magical and well-loved classic. Following a plane crash, Conway, a British consul; his deputy; a missionary; and an American financier find themselves in the enigmatic snow-capped mountains of uncharted Tibet. Here they discover a seemingly perfect hidden community where they are welcomed with gracious hospitality. Intrigued by its mystery, the travelers set about discovering the secret hidden at the shimmering heart of Shangri-La.

I found the narration to be incredibly comforting and engaging.
There is one character that sounds like Beldar Conehead, which was hilarious. This is a great listen overall.

Superb narration

one of the best stories ever written.... simply an enjoyable read a return to a simpler time

we all want a Shangri-La

The idea had potential, but it seemed like the author got a little lost in his own philosophizing (like the “Jazz Odyssey” of literature). He seemed to be so impressed with his own idea that he was sure everyone else would be.
It feels like the story is leading up to more revelations than you actually get and, while the main character’s story is very well developed, other characters seem to be reduced to some shallow cultural generalizations or stereotypes.
I’m sure there are plenty of people who love this book so at least check out the sample to see if you’re interested.
Did they make a movie version of this?

Deep or shallow? You decide.

I read Lost Horizon about 55 years ago. I enjoy listening to it. I came across the movie however I prefer the book overall.

Any additional comments?

Hilton's story is a classic, well worth the listen. It makes you (or at least, it made me) imagine being in Shangri-la, with no cares at all. A most inviting place. The negative here is the performance. De Morgan's reading is fine, most of his voices are quite good, but the production quality is lacking. At least three times I heard something falling in the background. And the pace is interminable (a digital reworking could clean things up quite a bit). Loooong pauses are frequent. But I recommend you put those problems aside and just listen. I've said before here, classics become classics for a reason. "The Lost Horizon" is well deserving of the honor.

A wonderful find

This is a truly wonderful and meaningful story. However, the audio was terrible.. It had skips and slips all through it. and there was constant background noise and echo all through it.
The story itself is wonderful.

great story ruined by noisy skippy audio

I don't typically listen to fiction, but I absolutely loved this book. If you're a fan of exploring the unknown and finding the unexpected, this book will grip you.

The performer was adept at using various voices to render different characters.

The one drawback is that the recording quality isn't the best, but it's good enough that you can make out what's going on. The original recording is likely on the older side, but the content is lovely.

Great except for recording quality

This is a classic. I'm more familiar with the movie and the book filled in a lot. The ending of the book is totally different. the story climax in the book is kind of weak and I like the movie better. The background in the book is all inspiring and as one gets older makes more more sense. Definitely Worth a listen.

superb story told by the old school

Lost Horizon is a classic tale of a mystical land where people live long lives and believe in "moderation" in most everything. I couldn't put it down. It is extremely well written, and the narrator's quiet voice fit the tale perfectly. Well worth a credit.

An excellent tale, well told

I fell in love with Conway as a teenager watching the movie late at night in black & white. Listening to the story again was enchanting and I was sorry it had to end.

The narrator reminded me of Ronald Colman who starred in the 1937 movie of the same title.
