Publisher's summary

In July 1973, Bob Tininenko, his wife Linda, and his brother in-law Jim Fisher set sail from Tacoma, Washington, on a 31-foot trimaran, down the West Coast to Costa Rica. The journey was expected to take a matter of weeks, but 10 days into the cruise, the party encountered a freak storm off the coast of Northern California. When gale-force winds and 50-foot waves capsized their boat, the voyage became a nightmare.

For 72 days, the trio was lost at sea. Challenged by nature and compromised by a bitter rivalry, their courage and will to live was put to the ultimate test. Jim, the owner and skipper of the boat, was a devout fundamentalist whose recognition of God's will in every event brought him into increasing conflict with his brother-in-law. As the two men battled to take control of a dire situation, Linda kept a secret that would lead to heartrending tragedy.

A "hair-raising" (Houston Chronicle) account of shipwreck and survival and a searing portrait of faith without reason, Lost! is an unforgettable true story from "a writer of tremendous power and achievement" (Detroit Free Press).

Horrific Lost-at-Sea Misadventure

Two men and one woman set sail on a small trimaran but a fierce storm damages and capsizes the vessel. This true story reveals the horrendous multi-month struggle to survive what befell the trio: they were forced to exist on minimal provisions and scant drinking water in an upside down partially submerged battered cabin. The tale has twists and turns right through to the final chapter. Will any of those afloat survive the ordeal and if so, how many? Three or two or one or none? Read this account to find out...

Lost at sea

Bobs will to keep everyone alive. Creative ways to spend the endless difficult hours. Linda was an angel.
What I liked least. The cursing in the final chapters, don’t think it was necessary. That Bob never gave his life to the Lord.

Amazing. sad. intense

As we watch or read fiction we expect a happy ending. You forget this is a true story. although not the perfect ending. It's real and shows what 3 people in the same situation can end up with 3 different out comes.

LOST IN THE BOOK

I truly loved this book. It showed the deepest nature of man. While I struggled to understand Jim's reasoning on some things I did admire his faith in God. the Narrarator did an excellent job. I would read this author again.

challenging story

If you are looking for uplifting, this isn't it.
if you are looking for a book which tells you everything to do correctly, this is not it.
.
I find the story challenging and I was unable to stop even when the book got sad.
.
performance good, and material true.

the rawness of the details.

Thompson goes down the rabbit hole of his characters'psyche. Brace yourself because you will never think the same way about religion, marriage, loyalty, and being human.

this book was WAY over the top with religion.

Narration was horrible. All the wonderful narrators to choose from, there were much better options. I'm a Christian, I believe in the power of prayer but I was beyond frustrated with "Jim"...it was just too much. I felt like punching him almost the entire book.
A lot of the book was unbelievable as well. For example, lost at sea, legs full of sores desperate for rescue but the female character applies her make up every morning?!?!?! sorry I call BS!
