Publisher's summary
The way we talk to ourselves is often unkind and filled with self-judgments. These overly harsh self-criticisms can make us feel unworthy and incomplete. What if what you really need is not higher standards for yourself, but greater self-compassion?
In Living with Your Heart Wide Open, you'll discover how mindfulness and self-compassion can free you from the thoughts and beliefs that create feelings of inadequacy, and learn to open your heart to the loving-kindness within you and in the world around you.
This is more than just an audiobook! Living with Your Heart Wide Open contains many insightful exercises and guided meditations (with gentle, soothing music) based in Western psychotherapy and Buddhist psychological principles. These exercises and meditations will help guide you past painful and self-limiting beliefs about yourself and toward a new perspective of nonjudgmental awareness and acceptance of who you are, just as you are.
Return to the guided meditations as often as you like to help you learn mindfulness and compassion practices that will lead you away from unproductive, self-critical thoughts and help you live more freely and fearlessly, with your heart wide open.

Story
The relentless pursuit of high self-esteem has become a virtual religion - and a tyrannical one at that. Our ultracompetitive culture tells us we need to be constantly above average to feel good about ourselves, but there is always someone more attractive, successful, or intelligent than we are. And even when we do manage to grab hold of high self-esteem for a brief moment, we can't seem to keep it. Our sense of self-worth goes up and down like a ping-pong ball, rising and falling in lockstep with our latest success or failure.

In Beyond Happiness, Bayda draws on Zen teachings to question our conventional notions about what happiness is and where we can find it. Most of us seek happiness in things that are external to us. We imagine that getting more money, a better relationship, or going on a nice vacation will finally make us happy. But Bayda shows us that the deepest and most lasting form of happiness does not rely on external circumstance at all.

Many guided meditation with music included
What did you like best about Living with Your Heart Wide Open? What did you like least?
The narration was great, the contents were good, but I did not expect there to be 5 or 6 guided meditation included in the book. If you aren't in the state of doing meditation, it could be a little annoying. It's good if you are already lying down and in a relaxed state of mind.
I wish they had the guided meditations as a separate download from their website like so many other audiobooks do. If they had done that, I would've given it 5 stars because the content itself was good.
