Publisher's summary

Nora Blackbird may have been to the manor borne, but these days money is so tight, she can't afford to lose her job as a society columnist. So when her new boss at the Philadelphia Intelligencer - Australian tabloid editor Gus Hardwicke - tells her to work the celebrity gossip beat or start checking the wanted ads, the choice is easy.

Now Nora's writing a profile on billionaire fashion designer Swain Starr, who recently retired to build a high-tech organic farm with his new wife, Zephyr, a former supermodel.

But before Nora can get the story, the mogul is murdered. And now Gus wants her to snap up an exclusive on who killed Starr before the cops do. But solving a celebrity murder isn't easy with a home life as colorful as Nora's. Her sort-of-husband, Mick, a former mobster, is associating once again with unsavory characters. Her sister Libby is on a mission to get her diabolical twins on stage or screen with the help of an unscrupulous former child star. And the youngest Blackbird sister, Emma, just got kicked out of the house by Mic - who refuses to explain why. If anything can bring the blue-blooded Blackbird sisters together, it's a murder investigation involving high-society events, glamorous people, and the disappearance of a genetically perfect pig that may or may not be basking in the sun at Blackbird Farm. They'll all have to pull together this time, because if Nora can't bring home the bacon, she might have to exchange her bucolic estate for a cramped walk-up.

I love a good mystery

Any additional comments?

I love the Blackbird sisters and wish the whole series was available in this format. I've read all the full-length books, but prefer the audio version. Kate Baldwin has a pleasant voice and makes the story come alive for me. I've listened to the book a couple of times now and am headed back to Amazon to pick up the prequels for my Kindle.

If you're skimming reviews wondering if you need to read the other books in the series first, I'd say it helps, but you don't absolutely have to. You could start here and we can hope that more will become available as audiobooks.

If you're looking for a lot of steamy sex, this isn't that kind of book. But there is plenty of chemistry and love, and a good mystery. ("Good mystery" to me means one I can't figure out in the first 20 minutes of the book or movie.)

Good story, not so good narrator.

Any additional comments?

The narrator includes several long pauses and basically the performance comes across as a job more than someone who understood and naturally read the book. I thought the pauses may have been a poor editing job but they continued throughout.
It's a decent story though is my first of the series. I have no idea how/why the gangster remains a hero throughout, but if the same narrator reads the other books it's probably the last of them that I purchase.

I love everything Nancy Martin writes!

Would you consider the audio edition of Little Black Book of Murder to be better than the print version?

I hope to hear more of this series on audio. I have read the books, but will buy them if they come out in audio. This is one of my favorite series!

Would you listen to another book narrated by Kate Baldwin?

I don't love this narrator. She does a great Aussie accent, but at times it is difficult to tell who is talking. Her voice is pleasant.
