Okay, but exhaustive and not the most ideal narration

While full of insightful wisdom, I found it very difficult to maintain my attention listening to this book. Additionally, the amount of information shared felt exhaustive to me to the point of almost seeming redundant. The narration became increasingly dull, and I found myself having to repeat several chapters. Perhaps I’ll give this a second listen sometime in the future.

Many chapters before you read anything meaningful

What would have made Little Black Book of Economic Development (2nd Edition) better?

I would place this book in the top five worst books I have ever read. This is definitely not a practitioners book and it begins with three chapters almost entirely filled with unsubstantiated (no empirical evidence) claims regarding the state of current economic development leadership and a sky is falling mentality. I am not opposed to some of the authors conjecture, but he is not a compelling writer that knows how to mix meaningful data with the broad far reaching positions he has on the field of economic development. I would highly recommend you take a pass on this book and maybe read Boomtown USA: The 7-1/2 Keys to Big Success in Small Towns.
