Publisher's summary

Brooklyn has been happily settling into married life with her hunky husband, security expert Derek Stone, when a little black book arrives in the mail on a quiet Saturday afternoon. The book is a rare British first edition of Rebecca, and inside, Brooklyn finds a note from her old friend, Claire Quinn, asking her to restore it to its former luster. The two women met while working as expert appraisers on the television show This Old Attic. Brooklyn appraised books on the show, and Claire's expertise was in antique British weaponry, but they bonded over their shared love of gothic novels.

The day after the book arrives, Claire shows up at Brooklyn and Derek's home - in disguise. She believes her life is in danger, and as soon as Derek sits her down and questions her, Claire reveals that in the last few weeks, she has experienced two near-fatal attacks, along with weird notes left in her mailbox, hang-up phone calls, and one very scary car chase. She's afraid that her past is catching up to her. When Claire was only nine years old, she witnessed several men, one of whom was her father, planning a terrible crime. And now it seems that she's been followed, bringing the threats against her literally to Brooklyn's doorstep. Can Brooklyn page through the clues to keep her friend's past from destroying their future?

Some technical issues

As always, I love Brooklyn and the crew. The story is great but something was odd.
By ten minutes in I was ready to return the book. Timing was off and the narrator sounded like she was falling asleep. Then I realized the problem was technical.
I increased listening speed to 1.10. I never do this but the change was amazing.
Voila!! Enjoyable listen.

Another great book!

I enjoy every book that’s in this series. This one is outstanding! Another great hit. I can’t wait for Hallmark to turn this into one of their mystery movies.

15 stories strong 5/5

Thank you Kate Carlisle for such a good series. I finish each book in wait of the next. Characters are captivating, Stories are intriguing and have the reader not wanting to stop read / listen. Thanks to Susie Berneis 's narration abilities, the reader is well connected and interested from the beginning to the end. May the Bibliophile Mystery Series continue for a long time.

Not my Favorite

I tried hard to like this boom and I simply couldn't get into it.
I was sad because I love this series. To be honest I can't even tell you who did it and why.
I hope the next in the series won't be like that especially since it takes a while for a new story to come out.

Always a book and always a good mystery

I’m a fan of this series and felt this book lived up to the plots of the previous books. Susie Bernie’s did a believable job with the Scotch accent. I’d recommend this book to anyone who is interested in book craft and who enjoys a bit of escapism. Great locations. Overall this book was a good story but was not a stand alone.

Suspend reality ….

Not sure how to explain. I would not call this book is cozy mystery. More like a script for Hallmark movie perhaps? Not interested if there is a series.

outdid herself with boring

sometimes this author can give her main character the most inane and boring rambling of thoughts and she outdid herself in this book. I gave it a 3 because it wasn't a total waste of money but was very boring. I kept waiting for it to pick up and for the heroine to overcome her stupidity and neither one happened. narration was good as usual.

The Scottish Setting Was Great

I liked the narrator, who moved along at a good clip on 1.2. Afraid I drifted away during several chunks of the story. However, I knew the characters and who had been killed, so I caught up in the last several chapters.
