Publisher's summary

In this revolutionary book, a professor of education at Stanford University and acclaimed math educator who has spent decades studying the impact of beliefs and bias on education, reveals the six keys to unlocking learning potential, based on the latest scientific findings.

From the moment we enter school as children, we are made to feel as if our brains are fixed entities, capable of learning certain things and not others, influenced exclusively by genetics. This notion follows us into adulthood, where we tend to simply accept these established beliefs about our skillsets (i.e. that we don’t have “a math brain” or that we aren’t “the creative type”). These damaging - and as new science has revealed, false - assumptions have influenced all of us at some time, affecting our confidence and willingness to try new things and limiting our choices, and, ultimately, our futures.

Stanford University professor, bestselling author, and acclaimed educator Jo Boaler has spent decades studying the impact of beliefs and bias on education. In Limitless Mind, she explodes these myths and reveals the six keys to unlocking our boundless learning potential. Her research proves that those who achieve at the highest levels do not do so because of a genetic inclination toward any one skill but because of the keys that she reveals in the book. Our brains are not “fixed,” but entirely capable of change, growth, adaptability, and rewiring. Want to be fluent in mathematics? Learn a foreign language? Play the guitar? Write a book? The truth is not only that anyone at any age can learn anything, but the act of learning itself fundamentally changes who we are, and as Boaler argues so elegantly in this audiobook, what we go on to achieve.

Great listen for a mother and for someone who is learning to run her own business.

Absolutely Fascinating!

First, I tend to love audiobooks read by the author. Jo Boaler reads this and puts on a really great performance. Her English accent is delightful. The content is incredibly fascinating. It has a subtle mix of research, pedagogy, concrete tips and tricks for teachers, and compelling storytelling. I recommend this to all educators. It might just change how you see kids. Believe in them!

Interesting and thought-provoking book

- [ ] This book was extremely influential in in giving me a more positive mindset towards my experiences around mathematics and learning in my early years and current struggles, after setbacks from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue- related memory issues. The peace of mind and calm that it brought alleviated anxiety around learning and made a difference in more proactively and enthusiastically taking steps methodically and regularly to go forward to overcome obstacles and achieve goals in career and personal leisure activities involving learning.
Jo Boaler’s story is an excellent description of what I’ve heard female educators friends speak. Also, work situations I have been in have been similar…It inspires pragmatic ways to handle various situations in the workplace and life where mistruths bullying and other inappropriate, malicious, prejudice, disrespectful and/or unethical behaviors take place . . . Great examples of how mindset can realistically and unpredictably outcome in learning. Truly a good read that I highly recommend.

Fantastic! Will absolutely recommend.

Jo did a fantastic job with this book and performance. I had heard about "Limitless" on a podcast without the authors name attached so I picked up this title and the one by Jim Kwik. They have similar titles and goals but I have to say that Jo's work blew me away. Its too the point and was overall a much more helpful piece. Great work Jo!

Good stories

A little hard to follow most of the content because it’s full of stories. Some of the stories were better than others but not enough to make me want to listen again.

Fortunately, Some Educators Care Enough to Confront the Status Quo

My Pre-Algebra, Mrs. Gutt (pronounced Goot), used art and other means to help us think beyond mere memorization. She always pointed out correct thinking in her notations on tests and praised our efforts. I was in 8th grade. The school year was 1974-75 and I have never forgotten. Her influence has remained a constant in my life.
Unfortunately, not all of my experiences were so positive. As such, I thank the author for her work in this field. And I hope teachers, school administrators, parents and students alike carefully consider the concepts put forth in her books. I can recommend this work, at least, not having read her others.
May we all grow in our understanding in order to move from from the fixed brain mindset to the brain growth mindset as lifelong learners. Listening to this book helps in that regard.

Jo Boaler Mindset pioneer

I enjoyed the seamless blend of stories, research, and application of mindsets affecting human outcomes. Very hopeful and concrete about the possibilities for individuals and for the systematic problems of education.

Enlightening book

This book is helpful and interesting but gets a little boring at times. I think it could’ve been shorter and still got all the good points across. I think more people need to learn about this mindset. I believe it could be life changing for many.
