Gritty criminal-is-a-good-guy story.

This is kind of like an updated 80s smuggler with a big heart epic tale.
Little guys against a megacorp run by a megalomaniac with a god complex.
It's gritty and spicy and intense.
If you like intense LitRPG with a HaremLit taste, you are going to want to get this book.
I give this book 7 out of 5 stars.

These are the gritty grimy streets!

I'm a big fan of the gritty grimy streets. Whether it's urban fantasy, cyberpunk, steampunk, or any other genre. This fit the bill. Very well written. The plotline and progression have a nice pace, not too fast so that the mc should always seem like their out of breath but fast enough to keep your interest high. This is a good pick for several hours of street entertainment.

Check This One Out

Right up front before you read any further just know that I recommend this book to anybody thinking about giving it a shot. A little context for my review. I tend to take it easy on the first and last book of any series as not every series makes it to “The End” and the first of anything can be a shaky endeavor. This is a solo narration by the amazingly talented Erin Bateman who I've been a fan of since “Survival of the Fittest.” The author is still relatively new to me, but I think they've been doing a pretty good job. For the first book the primary question is whether or not I was entertained, and the answer was yes. The story starts out with a male lead receiving two gunshots to the gut. He's a delivery boy but the reputation he's got is more of that movie called The Transporter. He manages to retrieve the package taken off of him and get medical help. Some sort of special doctor on retainer to patch him up. The person the package is meant for gives them some sort of high-powered pistol and we also get to see a glimpse of his boss AKA a fixer who appears to have some sort of hopeful romantic connection coming from both parties. From there we get introduced to the next important character which is a 20-year-old woman in some sort of prison like college. It's an orphanage for which she got special dispensation for the new college program. The scene is kind of unfolding with children being taken away to a quote better life. The suspicion is thick, and the lady character’s curiosity is dangerous. The whole opening chapters paint this picture of a futuristic dystopian city complete with sky ships, poverty, and a lack of emergency response services. I definitely don't want to go beyond that because it really is a good book in my opinion. If you do get to the ending of this one and are looking for more than the good news is that book two is already out in eBook format. If you get to the end of book two and are looking for more from this author or eBooks just aren't your jam, then I would recommend you check out his "New Kingdom" trilogy which has the first two books available in audio and then the third book is out in e-book format. Lastly, I'll just say well done to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us, the Audible listeners.

WOW!

Holy s.... that was a really good story. the mc does suffer setbacks and with those it show how brutal the world he lives in is and that conversation with davis was just the cherry on top.and paired with the amazing Erin bateman it makes for a truly incredible book. This is my second book from this author, and im now officially a fan of their work.

Probably the worst book I've read.

I told myself to give it a chance. I've been waiting for the story to "begin" or hook me, but there's 1½ hours left and I have no idea what's going on. It all seems random, messy and pointless.
