About this listen

Where was Uncle Albert? The day of Lady Whilton's nuptials was fast approaching, and the spiteful old lout had disappeared. Daphne Whilton, the bride's daughter, knew what happened. She had found him dead in his chambers and vowed to keep it a secret, fearing the miser's legacy would destroy her mother's glorious wedding.

Lord Graydon Howell, the groom's son - and Daphne's former betrothed - had lent his hand to the matter, moving Albert to the wine cellar. However, Albert's adventure was only beginning, thanks to a pair of thieves, a house full of guests, and the reluctant conspiracy joining Daphne and Gray, who were hardly in the perfect circumstance for reawakening romance.

Humorous

Excellent narrator makes a very funny story even funnier. Light-hearted romantic romp with very likable heroine and hero.

Hilarious

This was just a wonderful and enjoyable audiobook. Very well written, tight plot, and several LOL moments which was made much more entertaining with the amazing narrator, Pippa Rathborne. She is so talented in comedy which I believe is the hardest to narrate. She makes a wonderful team with Barbara Metzger. I try to listen to all their works.

Okay

It was cute but I didn’t care about it or the characters. It was more farce than regency romance. Narrator was super irritating. Check the sample before you buy this book. I think I used audible escape so I didn’t care much. Some of it was funny but it really really lagged in the last third of the book I barely listened to what was going on. There was no real chemistry between the H and H — probably made a lot worse by the crummy, weird narration (heroines voice was appalling). Heroine really did stay with puppy love and hero stayed with affection for his little neighbor with a bit more appreciation of her looks. I like Metzger but this was a fairly weak one — side story was in turns funny and boring as well. Not very well developed overall.

perfectly sweet and funny story

Lighthearted farce! Plenty of laugh out loud moments and hi jinx. Exactly what I love to listen to while doing construction work.
The narration was good too.

Funny where's-the-body romance!

I had such fun listening to this! The reader was great & the story was funny and creative. There is a mention in the plot summary of a body turning up at an inconvenient time, but there is sooo much more to it than that. The characters' stories wind in and around each other, and the center of the confusion is the person who dies, and what happens to his body. This was very funny, and you never knew what might happen next. The usual happy ending of a romance was almost the least important thing that the listener would watch for the resolution of. I loved it! More Barbara Metzger, please!

Charming, but...

What a light and frothy read! Comparable to the books of Julia Quinn or even Georgette Heyer.
I thoroughly enjoyed the intricate machinations surrounding the Baron's death,
and the secondary characters were well developed and some quite funny.
Curiously, the hero and heroine seemed to be the least interesting people in the book--their relationship was believable, but their characters were awfully generic.

My real issue with the book is with the audio production; the narrator sounds like she's in someone's bathroom rather than in a professional recording studio. The sound is tinny, the volume is uneven, and there is a noticeable echo. It definitely detracts from the experience.
