Publisher's summary

When Maine game warden Mike Bowditch is tasked with shooting invasive feral hogs that are tearing up the forest in his district, he makes a horrific discovery—a dead baby buried in a shallow grave.

Even more disturbing: evidence suggests the infant was the child of a young woman who was presumed to have died four years earlier after she disappeared from a group rafting trip.

As Bowditch assists the reopened investigation, he begins to suspect that some of his neighbors aren’t who they seem to be. When violence strikes close to home, he realizes that his unknown enemies will stop at nothing to keep their terrible secrets.

Mike Bowditch has bucked the odds his whole career, but this time the intrepid warden may have finally followed his hunches one step too far.

Critic reviews

“A violent, suspenseful, fast-paced tale written in Doiron's customary tight, vivid prose, with his keen eye for both idiosyncratic Maine characters and the beauty of the natural landscape.” —Associated Press

Addictive Series

This is the best of the Mike Bowditch stories so far. I love the world Paul Doiron has created. I am not from Maine and reading these stories makes me want to visit and see where the novels are set.

Mike is loveable, like a puppy. Most of the female characters are strong and tough -- like cacti. They are prickly and contentious. Interesting, but I would not like to get close to them.

The narrator is almost perfect. I can't imagine Mike having any other voice. If only he would look ahead a bit and not put pauses in the wrong places. I think he often pauses at the end of a written line, so it results in readings like,"He got out [pause] of the car. It's a bit disconcerting.

I do highly recommend this series. Start at the beginning.

Series keeps getting better

I nearly gave up on this series because I thought the main character was kind of dumb. However, he matures more with each book and the writing gets better. Glad I stuck with it.

Another great installment

Paul Doiron has written another great installment for the Mike Bowditch series. He brings to life all the beautiful scenery as well as the evil that surrounds it. Henry Leyva, as usual brings it all to life, he IS the voice of Mike Bowditch. I highly recommend this book and series, and suggest you start with the first in the series.

Another Bowditch Thriller

Where does Knife Creek rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Knife Creek ranks at the top of all audiobooks because of the perfect match between the reader and Mike Bowditch.

What did you like best about this story?

Knife Creek, like the others Bowditch books are so descriptive of the Maine environment. I have never been to Maine but Doiron delivers a perfect description that makes me feel like I'm there.

Which scene was your favorite?

Not to give away the story but the scene in the house at the end kept me on edge. Again, credit to the reader for the excellent portrayal.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Not sure on that one.

Any additional comments?

I've listened to the whole Mike Bowditch series so far and I think Henry Leyva is the perfect reader. Matching the perfect reader with a character must be difficult but this one is spot on. I can't wait for a new book. I think Doiron's descriptive style is some of the bet I've read. I felt like I was in the scenes as a bystander. Perfect.

My favorite of the series.

I have enjoyed all the books in this series, but this one is my favorite. The mystery was compelling and I like that the main character is maturing as the series continues.

Brilliant

Few authors can leave you deeply satisfied, and yet longing for more. Paul Doiron is one of those rarities.

Summertime in Maine

Mr Doirin's books about Mike Bowditch and Maibe have grown on me. There is always a slow growing suspense in his books. Knife Creek is no different. Readers have watched Mike grow up as a Game Warden. These provide a view of Maine few of us know. Here we fibd Mike still struggling with his life with Stacy but continuing to learn his job and use his innate talent with wildlife. A dead baby takes him to a date with death trying to find a young girl missing for 4 years. All the old characters are here with some fascinating and often scary new ones. Readers will walk along this trail with Mike page by page as the tale gets more and more frightening but the endubg is very satisfying. I look forward to the next installment. There is so much warmth, humor and affection for this character and a desire to know more about his life in Maine and trouble he will lead us into next. Mr. Doiron never disappoints.

This series is getting better and better...

I decided to jump on the audiobook bandwagon since I couldn't find the time to read physical books. I'm always a sucker for a good mystery novel. Paul Doiron's Mike Bowditch series is filled with clever twists and turns, great characters, and a dark sense of humor. Knife Creek (the 8th novel of the series) is perhaps the most shocking one yet. Henry Leyva does such a miraculous job portraying each character (not to mention the spot-on Maine accents). Looking forward to the other entries!
