About this listen

By the time Henry Kissinger was made secretary of state in 1973, he had become, according to a Gallup poll, the most admired person in America and one of the most unlikely celebrities ever to capture the world's imagination. Yet Kissinger was also reviled by large segments of the American public, ranging from liberal intellectuals to conservative activists.

Kissinger explores the relationship between this complex man's personality and the foreign policy he pursued. Drawing on extensive interviews with Kissinger as well as 150 other sources, including US presidents and his business clients, this first full-length biography makes use of many of Kissinger's private papers and classified memos to tell his uniquely American story.

The result is an intimate narrative, filled with surprising revelations, that follows this grandly colorful statesman from his childhood as a persecuted Jew in Nazi Germany, through his tortured relationship with Richard Nixon, to his later years as a globe-trotting business consultant.

Worth the time if you love foreign policy history

I enjoyed this book very much. It was very well researched and balanced. It provided both the successes and failures of US foreign policy during the Kissinger years many of which most folks don’t know.

Excellent content

This is an engaging project. He lived an eventful life. The way the voice actor changes his voice for different figure in the story really adds to the consumption.

excellent

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Delves into both the actions and the psychology of a brilliant and complicated actor on the world stage who influences and is influenced by Nixon during their partnership in the late
70's and early 80's. One of my favourite biographies.

A masterpiece and a must listen…!!!

Mr. Isaacson is an outstanding biographer and writer, no doubt, but in this audiobook he is only surpassed by Mr. Hillgartner’s ability to characterize the voices of Mr. Kissinger, Mr. Nixon, Mr Ford, Mr. Reagan. I enjoyed every second of this book and I recommend it as a mandatory reading/listening for those interested in understanding the complex politics of the Twentieth century.

A Must Read for the Historian in All of Us

WI, does a phenomenal job with this extraordinary piece on Kissinger. It's about the man but also provides the context of the myth and the legend.

Is Nixon or Kissinger worse?

Kissinger probably would’ve been a better ambassador as a Russian or a German.

Real politic and deceit really shouldn’t be married together .
