About this listen
King’s Blood is a fast-paced retelling of history’s greatest life-threatening journey ever taken to become king. It is the story of David and his unconventional rise to power, but this is not your Sunday-school tale.
To those who know him, he is nothing more than a shepherd. To his family, he is a servant and the youngest of eight, but David has a secret. It is a secret that will propel him into the national spotlight with the slaying of the most notorious giant in history.
Destined to become king, the warrior who once killed a lion, a bear, and a giant, finds himself the target of the kingdom he once served. Hunted now by his father figure, King Saul, David is forced to grow an army of outlaws, find the reason for which he was anointed, and wage war against his true adversary. Surprisingly, it may not be the king, but a man that history has long overlooked.
Daniel J. Geisel is a former Marine Sgt. who has turned his combat and operational experience into a truly immersive writing style. He has spent years in research to accurately and vividly depict David’s culture and life as the Bible describes. Anyone who listens to King’s Blood will not only see the story through the eyes of a warrior, but will also learn a wealth of knowledge about the ancient world and uncover hidden truths about a story so often told.

Story
David, new shepherd and youngest of eight, doesn’t want to fight. He wants to disappear, to be alone with his sheep. His brothers mock him, his father ignores him, and even the sheep he protects flee him. Yet, he was born for more. Yahweh has called him beyond the fields of little Bethlehem. He has called him to greatness. Saul is king of Israel. Chosen by Yahweh and anointed by Samuel the prophet, he leads the fledgling nation as he defends its borders with shaky hands. Chosen and anointed he may be, but he is also a failure.

Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to be one of the 5,000 when Jesus multiplied the fish and the loaves? Or one of his disciples when he walked on water? Or to have seen Lazarus come out of the tomb? Ever wonder what Mary thought when Gabriel told her she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit, or what the fallout was like in her personal life? Ever considered how those two disciples felt on the road to Emmaus, when they found that the man with whom they had been talking was in fact their risen Lord?

From the New York Times best-selling authors of America's First Daughter comes the epic story of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton - a revolutionary woman who, like her new nation, struggled to define herself in the wake of war, betrayal, and tragedy. In this haunting, moving, and beautifully written book, Dray and Kamoie used thousands of letters and original sources to tell Eliza's story as it's never been told before - not just as the wronged wife at the center of a political sex scandal but also as a founding mother who shaped an American legacy in her own right.

Gates of Fire puts you at the side of valiant Spartan warriors in 480 BC for the bloody, climactic battle at Thermopylae. There, a few hundred of Sparta’s finest sacrificed their lives to hold back the invading Persian millions. The time they bought enabled the Greeks to rally - saving, according to ancient historian Herodotus, “Western democracy and freedom from perishing in the cradle.” How did the Spartans accomplish this superhuman feat? This is what the King of Persia hopes to learn from the sole Spartan survivor.

A Marine Looks At Warrior King David
Scott Lucas's narration was on point!!
This is the story of King David, written from the point of view of a YHWH-fearing warrior Marine. It is in a way very reminiscent of Cliff Graham's books about Benaiah, one of David's 33. I think it takes a man of war to truly understand a man of war. Ezekiel 34:23-24 and 37:24-25 says David will return as a Prince and Shepherd of HIS people forever. The protective aspects of a Shepherd caring for and defending his flock, being transferred to the people he cares for being his flock is very Well Defined in this story. David's being a pre-cursor look at our Warrior King YaHshua/Jesus...Ex15:3, Rev17:14, Rev19:11-21 is expansively depicted. Not needing huge numbers to overcome a more numerous enemy is also made clear. YHWH + 1 believing human is indeed a majority. This theme is clearly laid out over and over again.
Well researched! Well written!! Enjoyed it immensely. When's the next book?😁

Engaging and enlightening!
This book was a really intense and educational journey for me. I really appreciated the amount of detail and understanding that was woven in to what is still otherwise a very entertaining story. It was also a great reminder to me as a Christian of the immense amount of confidence and faith people had in the past. Something I think we truly need reminded of in today's culture. THANK YOU to the author for taking the time to create such a wonderful book. God bless you in your future projects!

Experience David in a unique perspective!
I highly recommend this book - It is unlike any other that you have read about David's rise to the throne and the turmoil that ensued as the hand of The Lord is revealed in David's life vs the demise of Saul as he succumbs to self-doubt, disdain for David, and evil.
Quote - As David readies himself against Goliath - "The Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them, . . . "
Often the story is told of a giant and small boy - with barely enough strength and fortitude to stand before the wicked giant. But Dan Geisel
tells it in the Biblical sense.
David, although a shepherd, is experienced with challenges from life that far exceed his size and age. Having killed predators that wanted his flock. David understood the need to rely on Yahweh and not on himself. Also, understanding that the giant (Goliath) taunts his fellow Hebrews and the nation of Israel and most important taunts his Lord - David stands in the gap when the others (including King Saul) hid as cowards under their own strength but David stood when the others bowed to the enemy, not with his strength but the power of his God - Jehovah -
The story is told through the eyes of a man that experienced battle, understands the Biblical account of David, and the love of a father/husband.
With all of this stated; - you will laugh, cry, and get chills as you experience life along with David - and laugh I did when David thought "Is this married life?" concerning a statement Michal (his wife and Saul's daughter) says on their wedding night.
The character development is excellent, detailed, and needed as David grows from a shepherd to the throne as king. Experience David, the shepherd to king through the eyes of a Biblical student, dad/husband, and former soldier.

Historical Biblical fiction with insightful narrative hypothesis
I’m selective about books in this genre. Some can be to romanticized others to sterile, etc. I found this book to be a good balance of biblical history, cultural history, and added imaginative narrative. The narrative kept the book going. I think Geisel developed David well from historical source.
Two difficult areas. The narrator was good but there is static in the background. Not enough to make me stop listening but it is present and it is annoying especially when listening via ear pods / headphones.
Also, the names in the book, other than historical sources which cannot be changed, sound similar making it hard to differentiate at times. This wouldn’t be the case if one were reading the book but as an audio book I found myself confused at times as to which character was speaking, etc.
This book isn’t a Lynn Austin or Mesu Andrews. It’s more like a biblical historical fiction novel that David Jeremiah would write. (I like Austin & Andrews … not bashing them.)

Outstanding and fantastic work here
This book was so good I finished it in three weeks. Daniel has an amazing way of writing the story of David. I love how he writes all the missing details that I have always wanted to know about David’s story. This book take the number 1 spot for 2022. It just blew me away. Thank you Daniel for an amazing book and I hope we will be getting another one soon. I hope you pick up right where you left off
