About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author, CD Reiss, comes an all new, sexy tale of secrets, intrigue, betrayal, and a love worth crossing a continent for.

Taylor Harden is a man on the edge.

The edge of fame. The edge of untold wealth.

The edge of utter humiliation.

He built an unhackable system, and in front of everyone, it gets hacked.

His reputation goes from king to goat in a split second. Boom. Like that.

Some dude in Barrington, USA (AKA Nowhere) has locked down Taylor's code, and if he does not get it back, he is going to be wearing a monkey suit for the rest of his life.

Except, this guy? This hacker from Nowhere? He is not a guy.

Harper Watson is all woman. And she has a plan for Taylor, his code, and his body.

Unique story and a great start to a new series

Where does King of Code rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This has to be in the top 2 books that I have read this year as it is so unique and so well written and performed. Many times I love books that we get both the H/H perspectives but this is one book that I loved only having Taylor's perspective. His mind is so complex and it was so interesting to see how his brain worked and how his thoughts on things changed throughout the story.

I also loved the town of Barringtown, it is a secondary character itself and brought so much to the story. The people in the town made the book so much more enjoyable. Without these details the book would have lacked a lot of flavor.

What about Christian Fox’s performance did you like?

Wow, I could say so much about Christian Fox's performance. This is a different type of book since it had suspense, romance, "nerd speak" with coding in it and . This was by far his best performance I have heard him do. The depth of his narration abilities really showed in this performance as he was able to portray anger, happiness, fear, voice differentiation of characters, accents. etc.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely! This book drew me in and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I wish life didn't get in the way and that I could have listened to it in one setting! I am looking forward to the next book in the series and am sure it will be another one I don't want to put down.

Well.....that was different.

Was King of Code worth the listening time?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Great characters and a unique story.

Welcome to the world of coding and hacking! This book has mystery and suspense with a lot of computer jargon and some hot sexy time between Taylor, the cocky coder on the verge of releasing a new unhackable program and Harper, the genius computer hacker with a hidden agenda.

The story is about a mysterious hacker and how far she will go to get what she wants. It's about 70/30 when it comes to romance. But what we got is NOT lacking.

I just want to say I started off reading this book because I got an ARC but once I learned it was on Audible I purchased a copy. Holy Hotcakes, I am so glad I did. Christian Fox, the narrator gave this book LIFE! Kudos to Christian. I will be scoping for other books he narrates.

Anyway, it was an unexpected and refreshing story that I could not put down. And of course, the boy gets the girl, but it also ends with an opening for Keaton's story in Queen of Rust. He is one of the interesting characters I mentioned earlier. Now, Keaton, he intrigues me.

Prepare to be WOWED!

Wow! Why are there only 5 stars? C.D. Reiss absolutely blew me away with this story. Deeply intriguing and all consuming, this story had me under its spell from start to finish. A whole lot erotic, a little bit filthy and packing a overwhelming dose of emotion. I can't even imagine the amount of research that went into incorporating all the technical details about code and hacking, and then tying it in so perfectly with the characters and the plot. To sum it up? This story was BRILLIANT. A definite TOP READ FOR 2017!

The Audiobook was unique and like nothing I've ever experienced before. I never miss the opportunity to listen to Christian Fox. Once again, he NAILED the performance. Another reminder why he one of my favorite male narrators. He might even be #1! There were some bold technical choices here for sure, but I loved them all. There some sound effects and some other editing that might have been layering of tracks? I'm not sure what the technical term for it would be, but I found it really added to the intensity of the story. You will also notice that the narrator doesn't read the chapter headings. It took me a while to figure out what the "sounds" were. They are the chapter headings. Before I knew they were chapter headings, I already instinctively knew they weren't random. The sound is actually a Cello (I'm so proud of myself for figuring that out) and the notes correspond to roman numerals. I also heard a rumor that Christian Fox plays the Cello. Insert more swoon here. So freaking genius! I'm declaring King Of Code my favorite Audiobook so far this year! I hope to see it get nominated for an Audie.

No Emotion

I had great hopes for this audio. Unfortunately, it left me flat and cold and it was very unemotional. Honestly, I think this book could appeal to people who are immersed in computers and enjoy this kind of subject matter. I felt like the characters were robotic and truly did not connect, except there was a sex scene thrown in every now and then just to make me believe this was some kind of romance book. Yet, I must admit that since our hero and heroine are computer hackers, the author was true to their personality.

I love Christian Fox's voice and I hope I get a chance to try him out on a different style of romance. 3 Stars. Only worth the purchase if you like this type of mystery/computer style romance.

Different type of romance...

While the story did keep my interest, it was really weird. Kind of dark and at times didn’t really make sense. Narrator was awesome and kept the story moving. I’d only recommend if you can’t find anything else to get.

Christian Fox was made to narrate this book!

OMG! This was a great story. Christine Reiss never disappoints w/her tales. I absolutely loved the techie nerd/coding storyline. Taylor and Harper were a perfect enemies to lovers pair. The action, suspense, white-hot chemistry between Taylor/Harper, romance, and silliness had me staying up late, and getting ready earlier for work, so I could get some time to read this. Five stars, and I can't wait for the continuation with Keaton's story. He's definitely a nut I'd like to crack.

Christian Fox did an excellent job w/the narration. He captures Taylor, Harper, and the rest of the characters just perfectly.

This is the future of audio narration...

This is the future of audio narration. This is the Star Wars of audio books. With special effects and sound effects like no other. Listen and you will understand. It's an exhilarating workout for your mind.

The setting of this story - a quirky, backwards town called Barrington that is caught in the middle of Twin Peaks and the Twilight Zone. It was spooky. It was Hitchcock meets Mr. Robot. A cast of secondary characters that truly made this story all fit together like a Sherlock Holmes mystery.

Production by Andi Arndt - outstanding! The talent you bring to the audio world astounds me!

The story by CD Reiss- just incredible. It's intense. It's extremely detailed. It's brilliantly written. King of Code plays out like a movie that has you on the edge of your seat. It's intriguing. It's sensual. It's written in a way that makes you think and leaves you guessing.

Harper, The Queen, is the Goose to Taylor, The King's Maverick. Together they became the top gun of the coding and hacking generation.

The one man show narration by Christian Fox is indescribable! The characters created by CD Reiss's words were brought to life by his incredible acting ability. The mind sequences and coding were brilliant! He portrayed the King, the queen, and everyone else with British and Bangladesh accents flawlessly. Christian Fox is truly engaging and immerses you into this fictional world of hacking and computer geniuses. This was his best performance ever!

The ending is a song created by the emotional journey that I never saw coming. It was genius!

Splendid just superb!!!

I'm not surprised about CD Reiss coming with this master piece of a book at all what I am is deliriously in cloud nine about it. First of all the voice of Christian Fox is just perfection and the rest is how well written this book is, how intriguing but at the same time transparent the characters are. Harper and Taylor are full of passion but the best part is how you along with them fall in love with each other. Really recommend this book 💯. Mrs Reiss thank you for making the wait for this book worth it and deliciously enjoyable ❤️❤️!

Didn’t like Harper

I made myself to finish this book because I wanted to know how it ended and I liked Taylor. However, Harper is one of the least likable female leads I have come across. She is manipulative, rude and arrogant. I suspect the author wanted to write into her the strong alpha male characteristics that are so often loved in male leads, but for me it didn’t work. At no time did I think she was a good match for Taylor. I didn’t like her all that much and I sort of hoped he left her. Did she ever adequately explain why she hacked him? Did she ever convince us that Taylor should save her town? The answer to both questions is No.

Secondly, the cello music was weird and didn’t add a thing to the performance. I could have done without it.

Third, I realize that with the printed book, the long sequences of numbers would be easy to skip over. In an audio book, reading out a 20 character number-letter combo with a distortion effect on the audio track was just strange. Since this happened multiple times in the story it became distractive and pulled me away from the story. The number itself is meaningless to the listener. I say abridge it and read it as “a complex code of letters and numbers” to keep the attention of the listener.

All in all I would give this 3.5 stars.
