I'm the girl you'll never see coming.
Blink and you're dead - another target checked off my list.
But one night, everything in my carefully ordered existence falls apart. A bloodbath and a car crash later, I find myself in the grasp of four gorgeous, intimidating men.
Are my captors cops, like they claim, or something far more sinister? They sure know how to bend the law. And seeing how skillfully they handle a gun or a knife, I can't help wondering what their hands would feel like all over me.
But I have vengeance to wreak, and no man, no matter how powerful, is going to keep me caged for long.
They think they've caught a wounded little mouse. How could they know they've brought a killer into their home?
I'll bide my time, learn all I can, and when I'm ready to strike...
They'll never know what hit them.
Killer Beauty is the first in a new gritty contemporary romance series from best-selling author Eva Chase (writing as Eva Chance) and Harlow King. No major triggers, just hot murderously inclined men, a deadly heroine out for revenge, and an enemies-to-lovers romance where the girl gets all the guys. Prepare for total bloody chaos!

During the week she is with them she is drugged, told lies, tells lies and helps them kill a group of killers out to kill them.
It isn't until the end of the book that she finally has sex with one of the men whom she believes is an undercover cop. but throughout the book there is an underlying sexual tension with each of the men. The book ends on a cliffhanger as to how she ended up in the household. now I'm looking forward to the next installment of Killer Beauty.

In terms of the story, I thought it was gripping enough to want me to know more. I will say I didnt connect with the main character as much as I have with others from these authors (individually or in cowrites). I think it was more her personality and lack of social cues maybe, but it sometimes felt disjointed and I in turn didnt connect and root for her like normally do. I think the guys were standoffish (for good reason) so you don't get to see their real personalities come out in book 1. They needed to be guarded (for their jobs and they had a complete stranger living with them and she was sketchy haha). Again, I get why the characters were like this and it sets up the series really well (currently listening to book 2 and I like it so much more). I loved seeing some of the cracks show up (very minutely) in book 1. Talon was a huge surprise for me, I think he is my favorite. I usually go for characters like Blaze, but Talon won me over with knitting haha. And he seems like he would be a total teddy bear and the best head on his shoulders to be honest. I was shocked by some of the turn of events as we got further into the plot, they added more nuance and complications to Des' relationships and characterization, that's for sure. Definitely would recommend this series, I am very interested to see where the authors take it (more to come in Book 2's review later this week).
In terms of the narration, I actually was leaning towards a 3.5-4 stars on this one, which is a shocker based on what these 2 narrators have done in the past. They are some of my favorites but I think some of the voices missed the mark for me. I was continuously shocked why Blaze's voice sounds similar to Des's. You can be a slimmer/hacker guy without sounding feminine. I get Talon would have the gruffer-sounding voice, but I was disappointed with Blaze's portrayal (still an issue in book 2) - this was by both narrators. I think also the male narration made Des sound more whiny than she should have sounded. Its a problem some male narrators have with doing female impersonations. It wasn't all the time, but enough to make me notice. I rounded it up to 4 stars for narration because I think when the narrators were spot-on, they were fabulous and made the characters come to life, but there were too many instances where they took me out of the story with their voice choices.
Good first book in this new series
