About this listen
Upon the beautiful planet of Kaliya, the Khurran (eight foot tall sloth-like folks) live peaceful lives in the trees and mountains. Many of the Khurran of Wild Mountain still worship Jesh, the goddess of their mountain, and some remember when she walked amongst the mortals. After thousands of years another god awakens, though not one that any living being would worship.
He is Rokkhu, born of darkness, blight on the face of Kaliya. Leaf, a young Khurran, is beginning to learn the truth of who he truly is, for he is a bodhisattva: a being of light, reincarnated once again to counter the forces of darkness that emerge in the world. Reluctant to disrupt his peaceful and quiet life upon the mountain, he nonetheless must face his truth and look for other bodhisattvas in the world to teach him, for he has been chosen to stop the dark god, Rokkhu, and restore safety to the mortals and gods alike.
Journeying through a world in which the spirits and gods interact with the mortals, Leaf and his companions must unravel a spiral of dark deeds that began thousands of years ago, and that have only begun to come to their fruition.

Story
The story opens in the 19th century but quickly moves to the far future, where the sun has gone out, leaving the world in a darkness broken only by strange lights and mysterious fires. Over the ages, monsters and evil forces have descended to the Earth, compelling the surviving humans to take refuge in a great pyramid of imperishable metal built in a miles-deep chasm. The monsters surround the pyramid in a perpetual siege lasting for eons, waiting for the moment when its defenses will fail.

Yet for some reason, he finds himself speeding north with his roommate Simon on a lark — half-heartedly searching for a long-extinct creature allegedly spotted in a misty glen in Scotland. Expecting little more than a weekend diversion, Lewis accidently crosses through a mystical gateway where two worlds meet: into the time-between-times, as the ancient Celts called it.

Unique tale for adults
Narrator: good differentiations
Language: none
Violence: murders
Sexual content: nudity, Gods seduce mortals, groping/rape between Gods
Parents: this is for 18+ due to gore and sexual content.
Story: if Chewbacca were a monk, with a monkey tail, this would be his people. The story is interesting and fairly descriptive. Some fun action scenes, interesting internal and external journey of the ancient one. One of the more unique stories I’ve listened to in the last few months.

Review keeper of the violet fire
“This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review."
Justin Dickinson has joined the ranks of Frank Peretti, C S Lewis, John Bunyan, and others who have managed to weave a camouflaged path of spirit into an enjoyable fiction story. Andrew Start's narration fits this story like a glove, it's his tone that conveys each character. Very enjoyable.

Great Book!
Loved this book! At first I didn't care for either the way the characters talked or the narrator's cadence, but I kept listening and both grew on me and really fit with the story. I usually read the _big_ books so this was a short one for me, but I really enjoyed it. I don't want to spoil anything with any details, but I'd recommend giving this one a chance. If the author comes out with a part 2, I will definitely be purchasing it!
