Story
This book - which put Liverpool on the paranormal map - is about ghosts - whatever they are. Every culture has believed in ghosts at one time or another: Buddha trained himself to overcome fear by sitting in a haunted cemetery. Spooky tales are not just a contemporary phenomenon - there are several ghosts mentioned in the Old Testament. In the course of a person's lifetime, the chances of encountering a ghost are surprisingly high.

Story
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Story line was good
I really liked the story. Had I read this instead of an audio book it would have been much better. I didn’t like the narrator. A lot of times he was so full of emotions like crying that I struggled to even hear what he said as he read. Many times there would be back ground music or noises that went along with the story, but was so loud I couldn’t hear what he was saying. The story was good and as long as it’s a different narrator, I’ll listen to more.

Narrator was great, but jumpy narrative dinged it
Note: In exchange for an unbiased review, the author, publisher, and/or narrator were kind enough to provide an audio version of this book at no charge via AudiobookBoom.
The narrator did a great job on this. As a new narrator myself, I'm always listening out for how others perform their craft in the hopes that I can pick up something to help me better myself as well. No real complaints here with regard to the narration.
The writing, however, bothered me a little. The story jumped around too much - with the shifts in time jarring to the point that it affected the overall enjoyment of the book. Also, sometimes it was confusing as to what was happening or where it was happening. And the characters didn't feel very fleshed out or even compelling. I understand this was the second book in a series, but I think it was more of a standalone. If I'm mistaken, then perhaps this could partially explain some of the issues I had with the book. But not all of them.
At any rate, the premise was interesting and it certainly had some elements I generally like in a story. But unfortunately, it didn't do an effective job of bringing all those elements together for me.

Wickedly Weird!
In this book the reader/listener meets Kane an ex-military man. He meets a young lady Poppy whom he helps. She reminds him of his sister who disappeared. He and Poppy grow close. Kane suffers from delusions and occasionally gets violent. Poppy sticks with him and they are an interesting couple between his PTSD and her own secrets. Neither one of them is really fit to work and face society.
Like the first book in the series there’s plenty of material to twist the mind and the plot takes many turns. Strange happenings and action are woven into the story taking this volume to the next level. I listened to book 1 first but the way this book is written it’s not necessary to read it first, although, I advise it because Adam’s story is revealed and he’s important in book 2 as well. This story is for readers/listeners who enjoy horror and can stomach gory scenes. It’s difficult to find an author who can balance gore and great story. E.M.G Wixley is a pro at it.
Nigel Peever narrates this volume. It took me some time to get used to his voice, mostly because of the British accent. Accents always take me awhile and I prefer listening without them. That said I enjoyed the sounds effects he adds to intensify the story and his pacing is excellent. It’s not often a narrator adds all the extras he did. Well done!

nice
I have been going through my books, and found that some that I had listened to I hadnt posted a review, these ones wont be as detailed as ones I have listened to recently but I wanted to be sure they still got the marks I would have given them, had I thought about them at the time.
As the second book in the series, it was very nicely written the book was a good listen and I very much enjoyed it.

The horror continues..
We follow Kane, who suffers from PTSD and drinks a lot of alcohol. He meets Poppy who he's determined to help and she also reminds him of his missing sister. Once again we're in a supernatural world of horrors.
It was hard for me to keep my focus on this story and it jumped around a lot with me drifting in and out of my mind while listening to this audiobook. If I should continue this series, I'd prefer to read it.
The narrator Nigel Peever was ok. I liked that he was British, as it is a British story, but he couldn't keep my attention for long. He didn't always sound as he knew what was coming and shifted a lot in his pace. Furthermore, he didn't really have the voice I imagined for a character like Kane.
*This book was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review.

It just gets better!
and getting ready to read this one I thought it would be a totally unrelated story even though it said book number two. I am so amazed at how this author integrates boat stories together seamlessly. I know you hear about authors that’s band genres, but reading the books myself and just lets me know how much talent and imagination it takes to write one story but to know that this is the same author that wrote simulation games just blows me away. I know this is telling you nothing about the book, but trust me when I say if you like paranormal , good against evil with a little romance and horror thrown in forgood measure. Read this book!

Good Book!
The story was entertaining and had alot of twists and turns, i failed to listen to the first book in the series first, but this story worked well as a standalone novel, and i will be listening to the next book in the series. The narration in the first half of the book was too fast and hard to understand at points hence the 4 star review, it did however even out and become much better as it progressed. The way the story is told builds alot of suspense. Definitely worth a listen!

Great Series
Excellently written and performed, the book expands upon the story of the first book adding context to the events of the first whilst maintaining the dark and forbidding atmosphere.
Nigel Peever once again brings a story to life with his engaging reading. The characters are vivid in the listener's mind through his interpretation, and his calm and measured narration keeps the listener reassured.
