About this listen

Social media can be a dangerous game. A young woman’s world teeters on the verge of implosion when trolls push too far in this disturbing short story from New York Times bestselling author Alyssa Cole.

Tiana Carter has just started college and is determined to make the most of it. She’s thrilled to be posting videos about dorm-room cooking and campus fashion for a small but loyal band of followers. When she dips into the online dating pool, her first swipe right raises a huge red flag. Tiana’s polite rejection is met with scorn, and now a group of self-proclaimed “high-value men” are hell-bent on ruining her life.

Just a Girl is part of Obsession, a collection of compulsively readable short stories about people pushed to their extremes. So addictive you won’t be able to put them down—read or listen to each story in a single sitting.

Good story.
Relevant to todays world for sure!
But listening was challenging because of all the # names.

Probably better to read than listen.

I very much enjoyed this all too familiar tale. This was the first work by Alyssa Cole I have read and now I am certain it won’t be my last.

I’m glad I stuck with this story because when it started it really doesn’t grab you. It’s a series of online posts with the number of followers and the number of posts, etc. etc. But once you get into this it’s horrifying. A young girl is ripped apart on the Internet by what I took to be white supremacist men. They were disgusting, hateful, and got there just desserts. The narrator did a wonderful job.

Sobering story

A little too realistic with how women get harassed online by ‘men’s rights’ groups. Seems like this could happen to anyone.

Very social media heavy

This was so creepy and to close to home for women. The idea that men hate you so much that they mess with you for no other reason but you rejected them.

Alyssa Cole's "Just a Girl" is a gripping and timely novella that delves into the dark side of social media and online harassment. Tiana Carter, a college student excitedly sharing her life through videos, faces a terrifying ordeal when a polite rejection on a dating app triggers a vicious response from a group of malicious trolls. Cole expertly portrays the escalating tension and emotional turmoil as Tiana's world teeters on the brink of implosion. The novella is a powerful commentary on the dangers of the digital age and the impact of cyberbullying. Part of the "Obsession" collection, "Just a Girl" is a compulsive read that captures the reader's attention from start to finish. Though brief, it leaves a lasting impression and serves as a poignant reminder of the real-life consequences of online interactions.

Had a hard time getting started with this, with all the # and emoji stuff, but the further I went the more compelling the story became. Very subtle introduction of the internet angels I pray are out there. Unaccountable boys trying to be men, yech! They're everywhere. My first intro to this author (yes I live under a rock) but not the last.

Almost didn't listen

I love this story so much. I am glad the young men got caught. I wanted to strangle them myself.
