About this listen
The Folger Shakespeare Library, home to the world's largest Shakespeare collection, brings Julius Caesar to life with this new full-length, full-cast dramatic recording of its definitive Folger Edition.
Shakespeare may have written Julius Caesar as the first of his plays to be performed at the Globe in 1599. For it he turned to a key event in Roman history: Caesar's death at the hands of friends and fellow politicians. Renaissance writers disagreed over the assassination, seeing Brutus, a leading conspirator, as either hero or villain. Shakespeare's play keeps this debate alive.
This new, unabridged audio recording of the well-respected edition of Shakespeare's classic--expertly produced by the Folger Theatre--is perfect for students, teachers, and the everyday listener.

In Shakespeare's most controversial play, the opposing values of justice and mercy must be resolved. Antonio promises money to help his friend Bassanio woo Portia. He borrows the sum needed from the cruel Shylock, but there will be a dreadful penalty if the loan is not repaid. The golden world of Portia's Belmont calls forth some of Shakespeare's most lyrical love poetry. Story
In Richard III, Shakespeare invites us on a moral holiday. The play draws us to identify with Richard and his fantasy of total control of self and domination of others. Not yet king at the start of the play, Richard presents himself as an enterprising villain as he successfully plans to dispose of his brother, Clarence. Richard achieves similar success in conquering the woman he chooses to marry. He carves a way to the throne through assassination and executions.

Story
More than 2,000 years after his death, Julius Caesar remains one of the great figures of history. He shaped Rome for generations, and his name became a synonym for "emperor" - not only in Rome but as far away as Germany and Russia. He is best known as the general who defeated the Gauls and doubled the size of Rome's territories. But, as Philip Freeman describes in this fascinating new biography, Caesar was also a brilliant orator, an accomplished writer, a skilled politician, and much more.

Story by the GOAT; good performance
It’s no wonder Shakespeare is the best ever. The story is great and largely accurate, there are no villains, and every speech is gold.

Fascinating story, excellent performance
It's not called a tragedy for nothing! The performance was very good. For what is worth, we followed along in the Folger version of the play on Kindle.

Excellent Acting!
This version of the play is very easy to understand, even though it is Shakespearean English. The acting is excellent!

Oh god the accents
Story is brilliant and a lot funnier than I remembered. Most of the main actors are good but the accents are off-putting. The voices of the crowd are awful

Reliving the past
I had learned Julius Ceaser in HS so the script was well known. To see the words come alive was an awesome experience. It was also a testament to my emotional maturing.

This was a really good book.
I really loved this book. The people acting in this book where really good actors. I recommend this book if you like suspenseful books, but there was a lot of deaths in it.

Voice Actors 10/10
I had been meaning to listen to the play for a while, but had I known the voice actors would be this good, I would have done it sooner.

good play, difficult to distinguish characters
aside from the diffulty making out specific characters and uncertainty in some scenes if it's public or private it's fine.
