Acerca de esta escucha

Working with the British Secret Service on an undercover mission, Maisie Dobbs is sent to Hitler's Germany in this thrilling tale of danger and intrigue - the 12th novel in Jacqueline Winspear's New York Times best-selling "series that seems to get better with each entry" (The Wall Street Journal).

It's early 1938, and Maisie Dobbs is back in England. On a fine yet chilly morning, as she walks toward Fitzroy Square - a place of many memories - she is intercepted by Brian Huntley and Robert MacFarlane of the Secret Service. The German government has agreed to release a British subject from prison, but only if he is handed over to a family member. Because the man's wife is bedridden and his daughter has been killed in an accident, the Secret Service wants Maisie - who bears a striking resemblance to the daughter - to retrieve the man from Dachau, on the outskirts of Munich.

The British government is not alone in its interest in Maisie's travel plans. Her nemesis - the man she holds responsible for her husband's death - has learned of her journey and is also desperate for her help.

Traveling into the heart of Nazi Germany, Maisie encounters unexpected dangers - and finds herself questioning whether it's time to return to the work she loved. But the Secret Service may have other ideas....

Reseñas de la Crítica

"It's a knack to keep a long-running series fresh, and narrator Orlagh Cassidy definitely plays a significant role with her portraits of Maisie and her familiar friends and colleagues.... Cassidy's warm narration, with its clear emotional connection to the characters and events, makes this another winner." (AudioFile)

Excellent Narration • Historical Authenticity • Complex Protagonist • Suspenseful Plot • Emotional Depth

Having read, and reread the first 6 or 7 books, I wasn't sure if a Maise Dobbs as wonderful as the one in my minds ear could be found. Orlagh Cassidy is so right for this character. It's joy to have forgotten what I used to hear in my own mind. Also, she does a GREAT American accent! So many of them come off as a combination of John Wayne and Jim Carey! Brava to both Ms Casdidy and Ms Winspear!

Orlagh Cassidy is a treasure!

Good lesson (s) to be learned from this book regarding gratitude for our freedom, doing the right thing and loyalty. Some of the parts were pretty difficult to read, but unfortunately this is how it was at that time. Evil and unimaginable cruelty were a realty for 1000s of people young and old and must NEVER be allowed to happen again because of forgetting or denying that it ever happened before.

This one was worth the serious subject matter

I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and interesting. The plot was well thought out and well presented. I didn't really like the end, when Maisie was back from Munich in England, it really wasn't a part of the book, getting the old gang back together, but a preparation for the next book in the series, and I am not a fan of doing that. Also, I really liked the reader, she was precise and very easy to understand, but there was some original German in the book and I was once fluent in that language and I wish the reader had bothered to get enough information so that se could say the German words close enough that they would be understandable. Wouldn't have taken all that much work.

One of the better books in the Maisie Dobbs series

Cassidy's narration of this book is very credible. The storyline was not as intense as I was hoping for but had very enjoyable dialogue.

Beautiful Narration

The story is exciting and believable. The narrator is one of the best I have ever heard. If there is an award for a narrator this actor should be given an award.

Engaging

Her voices, interpretations, and accents were better than almost every other narrator I have ever listened to in Audible and before that, on Books on Tape. Kudos to her!

Terrific narrator

This was my first book written by Ms. Winspear, thus my first Maisie Dobbs novel. The book is well written although I loathe the repetition by Ms. Hobbs as to the loss of her husband. Ms. Hobbs is an excellent character and the supporting characters fit well with the story. The telling becomes a little confusing as presented by the reader - simply too many confusing voices! I do look forward to another Maisie Dobbs novel.

Worth the read!

Maisie’s story continues. It was a good chapter, but there is was a small plot twist that I really didn’t understand and which required a not very satisfying solution. Still I loved the book, love the series and am looking forward to the next instalment.

Another great story

I have read straight through this series, and this one is the best I’ve read so far. Edge of your seat! Great plot, great resolution.

Best one so far!

Very easy to become involved with these believable characters. I enjoyed how subtly the hints and drama evolved.
