Great addition to the series

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

With this book, we seem back to the shorter stories of Puatera Online. With a new narrator to boot. That being said, it works. Just as it did with the first 3 books in the series about Maddie. This series follows a new strong female character masterfully narrated this time by Suzanne Barbetta. Whether this is your first book in Dawn Chapman's LitRPG series or you've already enjoyed the first 4 books, you can enjoy this one.

Fantastic

This is a review of the series as a whole. I was very impressed with the world and characters that I came to know in the series. I was sucked in from the beginning and didn't want it to end. The narrator did a fantastic job of bringing everything to life and keeping you engaged from the first chapter to the end. I was given a free copy of this audio in return for an unbiased review.

Jessica’s Wild Puatera Ride

Jessica is the oldest daughter of one of the programmer’s of the game and she and her other two sisters while exploring their moms world are simultaneously entered into the game. The sisters are divided and Jessica’s quest is to find them while growing stronger herself. A very nice listen.

An Awesome Next Installment!!!

This book was so much fun and so enjoyable to listen to! I listened to it in one sitting and got totally caught up in it! Books 1-3 were awesome, book 4 was great and this one was back to awesome! If you haven't given this series a try then you are seriously missing out! If you enjoy LitRPG then you HAVE to give the Puatera Online series a chance. You will not be disappointed. This installment is well written and the narrator really brings it to life. I didn't care much for book four's narrator and was glad to see a new narrator for this one. Suzanne Barbetta does an awesome job with the various character voices and she is quite pleasant to listen to. A truly great combination! So what are you waiting for? Get this book and then get the others so you can enjoy the entire world (so far) of Puatera Online!!

Quite an interesting book.

Quite an interesting book but it's different from other LitRPG/GameLit books. It felt like it was targeted toward a younger audience. The language was clean and while there was combat it wasn't very graphic. Its length did make things feel a bit rushed toward the end.

This book is the first in a series of three interrelated books. Each book follows one of three sisters that enter the game together. For the most part the action in the three books is happening concurrently. I didn't realize how things tied together until I finished the second book. It's actually a brilliant concept for a series.

Due to a glitch when the girls entered the game there is very little feedback from the system UI. This results in an almost complete absence in the recitation of stats and other game notifications. I don't know how I feel about that. I like the game-like nature of LitRPG and like Jessica I felt a bit lost.

Having a female main character was quite refreshing too. Almost all the LitPRG books I have listened too have a male main character and the female characters can seem somewhat two dimensional. The main character was also quite a bit smarter than is normal for LitRPG.

The narrator did a good job with the voices. Each character had a distinct sound and I could feel the action when she read it. My only gripe was that she spoke a bit slow for my taste. I changed the speed of my player to 1.1 and this solved that issue.

Overall this is a great start to a truly unique adventure.

Really fun MMORPG listen...

Jessica's Challenge Book 5 of the Puatera Online series by Dawn Chapman (and this particular book also by Jess Mountifield) was SO much fun! Often with some of these LitRPG books, I find myself a getting a little lost and/or bored while listening. That was definitely not the case with this quick listen. Jessica and her sisters break into their mother's lab and, well, they glitch and get thrown into an online game with no way out. Only thing is, they aren't together. So not only do they have to try and find a way out of the game and back to their own reality, but they also are going at it alone and they really need to find their sisters to make sure they don't leave anyone behind. This was a super fun, easy to listen to book and I'd say that it wasn't too technical and doesn't get too bogged down with details so even non-gamers should enjoy it. I'm definitely looking forward to listening to the previous books in the series as well as Book 6, Dahlia's Shadow, to find out what happened to Jessica's sister Dahlia!!

Suzanne Barbetta did a great job narrating Jessica's story and she brought all of the characters, even the NPC's (non-playable characters, otherwise known as already programmed, non-human players) to life. I breezed through this book one evening while making dinner and cleaning around the house beforehand. I'd definitely recommend it if it sounds interesting to you! I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Fun, Quick and Engaging LitRPG

Despite this being the 5th book in the series, this was my first exposure to both this series and the author. It was a very good introduction.

Pros: The characters were quickly established, understandable and relatable, the game world that they end up trapped inside makes sense and unlike many LitRPG/GameLit books, while there is acknowledgment of player stats and a leveling mechanic in the game, it does not get bogged down in the details of that end of the game mechanics. In fact, the main character can't even properly access her menu for quite a while as the game is glitching!

Cons: Only two minor Cons for this book. One is that characters from earlier books in the series arrive and make for an almost deus ex-machina resolution of the big problem (other than being unable to log out of the game!) that Jessica is facing at the end of the story, making it seem a bit too tidy and easy to me (admittedly that is a personal preference issue). The other is that the end is, if not quite a cliffhanger, one that means you NEED to continue the series to get a feeling of resolution regarding Jessica and her sisters.

Overall: 4/5 stars, and recommend for anyone looking for a quick, fun and mostly light-hearted listen.
