Publisher's summary

Mortals falter under the weight of their choices. Only one man has walked every path and stayed strong. The bearer of borrowed blood and stolen soul.

Argrave tasted the invasion's bitter bite and earned some breathing room. Each breath is short and catches in his lungs, as he’s still hounded by the frailty and weak constitution he inherited from the original owner of his body. With plague sweeping through the world, literally reconstructing his body is the only way to live through the coming trials. Risking life and limb at every turn, he and his allies walk upon a dark path of stone roses.

The bastard’s more royal sibling and their deranged father are struggling to tether a kingdom on the brink of civil war. Necromantic atrocities free of their long-dead creators and the order of knights meant to contain them veritably compete to prove which one can be a deadlier obstacle to Argrave’s plans. But he knows something that they don’t, something that will make him grimly move forward no matter the cost.

The clock is ticking. If Argrave’s plans aren't in motion, the world will bleed out.

Good sequel

There is some good character development. I felt like the MC just accepted his fate of being trapped in someone else’s body without a question. We get a little self reflection in this book. I still am lacking big picture direction but overall everything is entertaining. Great narration.

The bloopers at the end!

So yes, the story is great, fantastic writing, great characters and a pretty developed world. BUT THE BLOOPERS AT THE END WITH LUKE DANIELS ARE TOP TIER!!!! I really wish more books would do things like that, gave me a good laugh right at the end of it all

Loved it

this was a great part 2 of a series that feels like a fresh take on the reincarnator genre

Good follow through and the narrator is just amazing.

Give the main character Power ups man. Poor guy. Send him to ER to get he’s lung fixed.

Nice improvement over good book 1

Nemorosus and R.A. Wilkins moved the storyline along well which is difficult considering the haphazard nature of Argrave's quest to save the world so as to save his life. The bonding between Argrave and his companions is interesting in its diversity of personalities; Argrave being the leader and frustratingly capricious in his decisions, Anneliese being a stoic, contemplative mage and Galamon being a warrior without peer and, well ... a vampire. All this makes it easy to become invested in them. There are other players along the way who play unknowingly pivotal roles and while not 1st tier characters, are still written as more than one-dimensional support characters.

Argrave's smarmy sarcasm is still present but has become less annoying and now comes across more like a defensive mechanism to help Argrave cope with the absurdity of his situation. Perhaps most notable and fun comic relieve is Garm, a mighty wizard who now is only an animated head on a stake. This is made even more hilarious with Luke Daniels giving him a Fargo, North Dakota accent.

Too much fun!

An improvement and excellent

Quality character development. Wonderfully balancing his knowledge of the before with the changes he's creating in the timeline. The narrator or perhaps the character himself has smoothed out the eccentric aspects of his dialogue.
