June 6, 1944. On the dawn of the D-Day invasion of Normandy, two snipers find themselves fighting a battle all their own. One is a backwoods hunter from the Appalachian Mountains in the American South, while the other is the dreaded German "Ghost Sniper" who earned his nickname on the Eastern Front. Locked in a deadly duel across the hedgerow country of France, the hunter matches wits and tactics against the marksman, both of them one bullet away from victory or defeat as Allied forces struggle to gain a foothold in Europe.

Story
From "the master of alternate history" comes a new trilogy that reimagines a mid-20th century in which General MacArthur, without bothering to consult President Truman, detonates nuclear warheads in several Manchurian cities after China enters the Korean War. In his acclaimed novels of alternate history, Harry Turtledove has scrutinized the twisted soul of the 20th century, from the forces that set World War I in motion to the rise of fascism in the decades that followed.

Story
They each had their reasons for being a soldier. They each had their illusions. Goodrich came from Harvard. Snake got the tattoo - Death Before Dishonor - before he got the uniform. And Hodges was haunted by the ghosts of family heroes. They were three young men from different worlds plunged into a white-hot, murderous realm of jungle warfare as it was fought by one Marine platoon in the An Hoa Basin, 1969. They had no way of knowing what awaited them. Nothing could have prepared them for the madness to come. And in the heat and horror of battle they took on new identities, took on each other, and were each reborn in fields of fire....

Story
In the U.S. Marine Corps, the most dangerous job in combat is that of the sniper. With no backup and little communication with the outside world, these men disappear for weeks on end in the wilderness with nothing but intellect and iron will to protect them - as they watch, wait, and finally strike. But of all of the snipers who ever hunted human prey, one man stands above the rest as the most legendary fighting man to ever pull a trigger. That man is Carlos Hathcock.

At 24 years of age, U.S. Army Ranger Sean Parnell was named commander of a forty-man elite infantry platoon - a unit that came to be known as the Outlaws - and was tasked with rooting out Pakistan-based insurgents from a mountain valley along Afghanistan's eastern frontier. Parnell and his men assumed they would be facing a ragtag bunch of civilians, but in May 2006 what started out as a routine patrol through the lower mountains of the Hindu Kush became a brutal ambush.

Thrilling WWII sniper story
This is an exciting, fast paced story of WWII sniper, Cole, as he and the allies push the retreating Germans back across France towards the end of the war. There is lots of action and tension in this story and you get the feel of what it is like to be the hunter and the hunted. The narrator did an excellent job of showing the excitement and tension and giving the characters their own voices. Even though it is the 3rd book in the series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone.

A wonderful thrilling listen
What a wonderful story filled with danger, thrills, excitement, humor that makes you laugh out loud, sorrow, pain, anger, at times I found myself yelling take him out, a few yes, yes and a few OH NO this can’t be good. I found things to do all day long so I could finish it. It was just as good as the first one, it starts out a little slow but soon picks up and keeps you held on the edge of your seat. My husband doesn’t really like audios It didn’t take long for him to come out and set listening.
The narrator did a wonderful job of narration he put feeling into the audio. His voice is very powerful, clear and pleasant to listen to. There are no background noises or any volume changes His tones are very even he never leaves you guessing how the character feels. He gives you a very clear rich audio that you do not want to put down. The male voices are as pleasant as his female voices. You never have any trouble knowing who is talking or just what is on their mind. He uses the correct tones with each character just as I pictured them to be. He chuckles when he needs to or shows sorrow through his voice. He really brought this story to life for me, I had no trouble watching in my mind as his voice smoothed over me making this almost like a movie. He made me feel what each character was going through, at time I held my breath waiting to see what was going to happen next. The narrator has a knack to reach into you mind, pulling on your heartstrings and gibing you a highly entertaining listen. I really enjoyed his voice and could listen to it all day with no problem. Mr. Bennett has become one of my favorite narrators I know when I see his name I am going to be taken away and truly enjoy the listen.
The author gives you a believable story that is highly entertaining as well as pull on your heartstrings, he makes you laugh, want to cry and even sigh, I really enjoyed watching these snipers taking each other on and working their best to take out the other while I hold my breath to see which one would die and who would live. He made me feel like I was right there in the middle of it all. It was very emotional, and sad but the men feel real joking with each other but getting right back to business. I can’t tell you how well this author and narrator blend so well together, and how much I enjoyed this story. I am off to start the next one in the series.
